Yes, you are accurate that politicians frequently abuse people's emotions for political gain. It's not meant to be that way because it's as if we don't have a choice anymore, as if we don't know our rights as humans, so it's very important that we learn or teach our youth about our privileges and duties as citizens, which is why civic education in schools is important, as is encouraging them to get involved in their local areas and take an active role in solving whatever issues they see around them. It is equally extremely important to vote in elections, even if the system appears to be ineffective. Because voting allows citizens to decide to make use of their your voices and to be heard and contribute to a brighter tomorrow for Nigeria.

Politicians are influential and because of their power they do not affect any crime big or small but a common citizen makes a strict punishment for any wrongdoing. This happens because of the disparity between the rich and the poor. Society is generally filled with inequality. The poor have less power to speak up on the dominant in the society so they are afraid to fight. They are given protection without taking action against the corrupt in the country.

What’s the difference between the two? Influence and power. If you are a lowly citizen and you steal a bread, you will be jailed. If you are in the government and you steal money from the people, you will be elected next year.

It is truly hypocritical but the people who are doing these bad things have done such in the past and the only reason why they get away with it is because they are high in the societal hierarchy. They have resources, money, connections to make sure they never serve punishments even if they do deserve it.

And even if in the small chance they get jailed, they are still treated way better than most inmates.

In fact, the African continent is on the second stage of colonialism, and is referred to as neo colonialism. This neo colonial trajectory has structured the continent into a mould of dependence and underdevelopment. It's economic forms are strangulated, which means production as a form is extremely under external control. Therefore, the STATE then is the only institution open to the ruling class to plunder. All individuals have same perception and consider it as a normal way in the public space. Even the branches of government are not free from same matrix of the loothing spree. In political economy, it is called Primitive Accumulation. But in an ordinary language it is called Corruption.
Again, this pattern of public officials behavior is further subtended by a false precept of ethnicity, religion and inter personal relationship. So, all forms of social mobilizations are conducted on these prism, irrespective of your intelligence status in the society . Therefore, the massive support for corrupt public officials in these climes would continue unabated whenever there are arrests and prosecutions.

This can only happen when the poor masses are not properly enlightened. One of the duties of political parties and other political associations is to properly enlighten the citizens of their rights so the people can make good choices. But most political parties and leaders don't use their positions to give the people the right information, they'll rather use that avenue to brainwash the people and feed them with false truth. Citizens who are well informed will never embark on protests for the release of a political leader who is lawfully detained for gross misconduct and misappropriation of public funds.

Politics in most countries is a dirty game and the gullible masses will always be used as tools for the politicians to carry out their well decorated selfish agenda. Things will never change for good as long as we still allow these  self acclaimed leaders control our actions.

True, this happens globally but using different tactics and I would say you should look at the situation in countries like India, Pakistan and Bangladesh you will find divisive politics is used as a tool to consolidate and gain the votes from majority of population by portraying that people will be in danger if these politicians are not voted to power, using religion, sect and tribes by brainwashing them and creating sense of fear. The same crowd which supports or votes them starts protesting if these politicians are arrested in corruption or even rape cases as we have seen rapists and murderers being garlanded or even made ministers.

Unfortunately, best educated people falls for this trap because that's what they have been taught (hatred for other sects, religions apart from their own) while growing up as it's happening from decades.

What you have just said is the true solution to free OP's nation from the chains of these criminal politicians. But the problem now is that the people are not united because these politicians have successfully divided them. These politicians are wise enough to use religion and tribal sentiment to deceive the people. The people now support these politicians not because of their good works but because they are from their tribe or share the same faith. Instead of fighting against these politicians, the poor masses are busy fighting themselves based on religious and tribal lines. If the poor masses set aside these instruments of division and form a common front, these politicians will have nowhere to hide. They will be chased out of office and persecuted for their evil deeds.

Sadly, that is one of the most useful tools for those politicians who want to engage in corruption: the division of the population. The division, specially the political one, serves as a very good distraction for the masses, the population get engaged in senseless political and pseudo-ideoligical battles between the two factions, while the leaders of t those parties take advantage of the fog of the conflict to steal and set up their own businesses, using money which do not even belong to them.
It happens here in Venezuela, where the population is divided, it happens in the United States where the population is divided in Republicans and Democrats, etc.

When the population is United and realize where their problems truly come from, they ask their leaders to show proof of their management and their efficiency, instead blindly chanting their names and demonize the opposing political parties.
In order to get rid of the corruption in those countries, the average person needs to learn that it is more important to put the republic / country before parties or groups.

Hey OP, want to know the secret to solve that problem that you're talking about? Expose these corrupt people or maybe even have all the citizen unite to scare the living lights out of these politicians, that's the only way that you can keep these people in line but it's too bad that we're all too scared to fight them and they know it because they know that we've got a lot of things to lose in the case that we all fight back.

Human being primary thing is stomach, which feeding our politician noted this and the stage hunger to the people where is possible for them to catch and use as they wishes. Hunger take away human integrity and dignity, it's very to control hungry man any other thing if truly you can give them the food. Crime easily originate from hunger that is why politicians use the hunger striking personnel to kill snatch bilot box and do all manner of things to get paid, even the protests can be stage through hiring if hungering people. Another major reason is lawlessness and failed policy's where a victim of crime Scott free is already a loop hole for many seeking such direction to dive in. Thirdly heart of man is full of evil, it take a renewal of mind to counter those evil imagination mostly where politicians has use diverse device to divide citizens examples ethnicity where people don't see things the way it appears but consider their own.

What makes politicians succeed in using the citizens as disruptive tools is poverty.the poor is larger than the rich, majority of the average people you see are poor even the youth are poor too.so when the are given some ransom they are happy and go out to execute what they are asked to do.for example if a man has 1000$ in is account and then you call him for a job to be payed 50$ that person won't go anywhere because is contented with what he has.but when that same man is broke still go and meet him with that same offer of 50$ he will accept it and go for any job you ask him to do.so it keeps working for the politicians cause they know they will still have one person in poverty to do there dirty jobs

In my country what I see is that majority portion of population splits in two factions, each one ruled by a key politician, who claim to be rival of each other and to be adepts of different political ideologies. However, when I analyze how each of those politics govern and how they act, there is no difference at all between them. They are two faces of a same coin.

Moreover, their "fanbases", which are composed by the so called citizens, also don't differ from each other, because they are heavily manipulated by those leaders, being totally controversial on their attitudes and statements when confronted by real facts.

I'm not sure if citizens allow themselves to become disruptive tools of wicked politics for being ignorant, illiterate, or if it's just a matter of bad character or if it's due to a biological necessity to be part of a group, which will make them feel safe and protected.

Organized crimes are never possible without the support of the person who is in rule and possibly the one who can do such crimes should be very powerful and a portion of every deal will go to all the tables who is supposed to surveillance and stop such activities from happening but the reality is completely different and we can't deny the fact there is price tag for everything which includes the people too.

This could be the issue of the constitution where such crime and its punishment is written and it depends on the mode of committing such crime or offence. Like for instance with the crime that involves physical exertion of strength, use of force and weapons. These types of crimes can cause bodily injury or harm to the victim or survival and the law doesn't joke with such kind of crime that will inflict injury or cause death to someone from such act if there is no other provable extra factor from the attack that caused the death. Therefore, if you then commit a crime that falls on such physical injurous offense then you will be charged according to what is written on the sections of the constitution or the law where it is found. Example stealing a little substance that worth less than $5 will be equated as if you stole probably $1 million, so because it is under stealing and the law presume force, use of weapon on the crime to scare victim.

But on the contrary, stealing by trick, pretence and all sorts that doesn't involve use of force, bodily harm, death etc, they are categorised as lesser crime. Therefore, if you trick someone even beyond what a thief steal, the trickstar is likely to get a lesser punishment or penalty. So either it is unfortunate but it depends on jurisdiction and the law guiding them.

This has been the problems of our dear society, citizens has been seen as an instrument to cause havoc in their surroundings and country at large, the politicians are the problem we are facing today in our society, these people come to the locality during electioneering period to manipulate the mind of those they feel that the can use to achieve whatever they want through violence, in some west African countries during election period they people that lose their life are very much and this in reverse has prompt unwillingness in the citizen not to vote for their favourite candidates in different levels, things needed to be done right and the time is now but it will only be done collectively and harmoniously.

If we did not allow ourselves to be made a weapon or tools for these corrupt leaders to use as their fighting instrument of destruction, they will not be able to go ahead in doing that evil intentions in their heart, they have their own children but they cant make use of them to do evil, instead they send other peoples children on an errand, just because they are offering them a little amount of money that could not alleviate them from poverty completely, people have this low self-esteem on theirselves and think they cannot make it unless through violence.

In this side of the world, if you want to commit an offense maybe corruptible activities, if you are caught in a minor offense, you will be prosecuted but if you commits a highily level of offense, it is negotiable and you would be celebrated even likely to be awarded. Shame!

This tolerable nature of actions has blended citizens and individuals in engaging on advance corruptible activities being blind minded at their indulgences.
They are fond to say... Okay, I know this is dangerous and against the law but yet, I will do it on two reasons...
1: If I get caught I will be pardoned, celebrated and get recognition portfolio from my government after certain disciplines.

2: If I don't get caught then operation went well successfully as planned.

These are how notorious criminals were encouraged and discovered in a society were the governments losses their responsibilities, fails to have integrified and reputable governance.

Who told these poor citizens that the said arrested politician as said (governor) isn't guilty of his charges? Indeed people perishes due to lack of knowledge!

This same politician is one of the political leaders that the masses frowned at his leadership during his tenure.
Due to survival difficulties in the country, even the first class intellectual citizens is being so easy to be convinced, used as a tool for disrupting developments that tends to bring wellbeing to the entire societies.
