It's probably just a mistake, this happens with Bitcoin once in a while too.
Some (good guy) miners return the accidental fee.
The last time this happened with ETH, it was with the same exact mining pool (SparkPool). They returned 50% of the fee back to the user and pocketed the other half. Wouldn't exactly call these good guys.

Perhaps this information might interest intriguing minds especially to newbies out there; the possibility that something may have glitch in the system or something may have used to cover up.

Perhaps, money laundering.

The transfer according to Etherscan, a certain participant paid commission to the Sharkpool mining - second largest capitalization network- valued $2.6million worth of ETH.

Glassnode alerted in its twitter account saying ETH total fees just reached ATH (all time high) of 534.244 ETH.

Previous ATH was observed last March 13, 2020 amounting to 347.553 ETH.

There are no clear conclusion as to why the amount has paid, rather the possibility of any hidden purpose (as usual intriguing stuffs in crypto is lot more interesting than investing one lmao Grin)

But with simple common sense, I think no one will try to pay that huge amount for a penny transfer if not with sole purpose of getting something in favor unless the sender may have made a mistake.

However, the amount of 0.55 eth was ended up one of Bithumb's wallet.

As Bithumb spokeperson confirmed that the recipient address found out to be one of its customers.

In addition, investigation is still on going as to the transaction happened yesterday.
