Press section should be locked/archived in my opinion. More hassle than it's worth these days with people just posting any article that vaguely mentions something to do with crypto. It's mostly just alt spam anyway and a place sig spammers can get away with legally copy and pasting.
Agreed, there is no need of press section as of now. If anyone wants to see some articles, there are websites like cointelegraph, nytimes (bitcoin section) and a lot. People here just copy news from those websites and that's all, forum's free space and resources are wastes for nothing.
Currently no one writes unique and gramatically correct articles in this section.

Like in the real world, there is BBC, CNN, France24, Aljazeera, ABC or sky news... I can visit it all but this will take much time so what I am actually doing is visiting a forum that offers the most important local & international news and its sources.
I don't know if the press section should only be limited to Bitcoin. If I compare it to legal or meetups subs, both could be merged in the main discussion board imo.
I respect your idea and I am aware of what is happening in this sub but regulation is the solution, we need to impose rules and let the community report infringements.

Just use a crypto news site if you're looking for news articles. Why would you want to spend time looking through the same duplicate threads and yet another article from McAfee about a tweet on whatever crapcoin he's been paid to shill that day.

Recenty I posted news about MyEtherWallet Hack there and thread is deleted very quick, but shortly after that other user is posted same news and it is still there : https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/--3394552

So it is evident that there are no rules there,it only depends of how how often moderators visit that part of forum.

Report them. If they're reported they're removed but staff aren't going to patrol the Press board looking for things to do.

Jeff is absent from more than two months which could explain partially why some topics aren't deleted, and I think it depends also from the mod dealing with the reports, maybe some of them don't mind seeing crypto related news in the press section.
I don't know theymos opinion, but personally I think that this section should be opened to the crypto-related news. Maybe putting it in /other or regroup press/legal/meetups/off-topic/politics and society under one board ("society") could be better?

Jeff Garzik hasn't been on staff for years and will have better things to do. Theymos just hasn't removed his name. If the board is to stay though it should have a dedicated moderator as should the other boards that don't have one, but I would still vote to retire the board completely.

Or could just be that nobody is reporting those threads. Probably most people using that board don't even realise that it is supposed to be Bitcoin only news so they're not likely to report altcoin stories.

Moving it is not a bad idea.

How much is known to me Press is only limited to Bitcoin news,no news regarding other altcoins shold be posted there.I can say from my personal experience that few thread I posted there was deleted, and when I ask one moderator what is the reason he say that news is not Bitcoin related.

Maybe to have verified representatives from those websites who are allowed to post on forum. Cuz if it is really that people use copy paste to raise their post count by posting there. Problem with news websites is that they even sometimes have similar stories such as well known news websites today. I see that not many people follow up and post there the news, but rather they post even in altcoin section or other relevant parts regarding what the news are about on the forum. So basically this is why I came up with asking this question as I haven't spotted press before. So you have more spammers regarding normal boards that post news related content (copy-paste and link).

Since you are Member on this forum I'm surprised you did not know that there is Press board,if you only once click on Bitcoin Discussion which is at the top of the forum you should definitely see that section.

Definitely no.
Press section is the only place where i personally get informations related to cryptocurrencies. I do not visit directly news site, i read the headlines, pick what it seems to be interesting and read the summary in btctalk then continue reading the rest in the news sites.
Impose regulation is recommend. I prefer max 3 articles/topics per user per day. Duplicated topics aren't allowed even from different source, you can post it inside the first topic and mentioning what was added comparing to the first one (i used to report some of the duplicated posts in the past).

The fact that you mention cryptocurrencies is telling because anything other than bitcoin shouldn't be in there at all. I'm not sure why you need that board specifically especially because of all the constant spam of anything that vaguely mentions anything to do with crypto. It's meant to be for notable hits but consists of people just re-posting stuff from coindesk or their crappy blog so you would be better just using those sites. Losing that section isn't an issue at all either because anything of worth can and is already posted in the main discussion board.

Press board need moderator who will introduce some order there since current moderator was online last time more than 2 months ago.I agree that some users use that board for signature spam or excessive advertising of their websites. There should be a rule that only one thread on same topic should be open, now we have same news from many different pages. Some users are so rude that they post same news two times,so one thread per user/per day rule would be a great improvement.

Is it still considered copy/paste if they also add the source?
It's not plagiarism, but if that's all they do, you can report them, as it doesn't add value to the forum.

I had just noticed that I've been seeing a lot of topics which are basically just like RSS feeds.
Just 2 sentences of text, followed by a link to a blog or news website.

In most cases, it's probably the blog author promoting his content. Which is probably fine, if they would only add it to Press instead of other boards.
In other cases it's clearly just a way to up their post count. I mean, it's really easy to make 50 posts with just the content of an RSS feed Tongue

Is it still considered copy/paste if they also add the source?

Is it good/bad and is it something you would like to see on the forum as well?
I don't particularly care much about it, but it exists already. See Press.

Hmm, thanks. Strange to see people not using it but they post on various boards out there links of posts. I see it under the child boards of Bitcoin Discussion. Feeling awkward for not taking looking more  before asking the question now >

Okay so here is the thing, I like it when some people post news here and there and read opinions from other people. I guess guys from news websites like the idea of gaining attention from BT users + the ability to build back links etc. Was thinking if it is possible, of course it is but if it will be approved to have the section on this forum dedicated to news and articles.

I do really think that many of users here can benefit from this as now news articles are spread across multiple sections and they are even mixed with other topics around. So by having section dedicated to news, users can go there and read the news when they want to and give their opinion about it and thus it might be easier simply to have relevant news in one place.

I understand that forum is not some kind of news aggregator or something and that it is simply the forum but I think that we can all have the benefit of this. But since articles are allowed, why not have the place just for that.

What do you guys think of this idea? Is it good/bad and is it something you would like to see on the forum as well?
