I definitely did the double-check on the 6790 but even as a 6870, the deal was still great

Yes it's the 6870. It looks like 6970 is the Diamond Multimedia model# for the card, but the chipset is the 6870 (and I knew that going in).
That was the clearance price, only visible online, in the store the sticker was $209, but it rang through at the clearance price
