There is *NO* point doing anything with the CPU. If it's a good one you may burn it and loose the money, and if it's a bad one, you are going to get shit hashrates anyways. If you want you can install gomezpeer or something similar to make a bit of extra money, or just leave it idle and save juice.

Also, note that if the CPU is used 100% it may not be able to provide work fast enough for the GPUs and your hashrate will decrease. (This happens to me when running finite element analyses on my work computer on a 2600k with two 5870s).

If I'm doing anything else that uses the CPU, I set the CGMiner priority to Realtime.

You would be best using the server CPU's for litecoin mining.  My Atom gets about 0.68LTC a day  Tongue

Is it even worth it to LTC mine? It seems to go very slowly using my CPU(unless I pull a GPU off BTC mining, but I don't want to do that), and they're not worth anything.

My AMD X3 can get ~16KH/s, which is about 1.8LTC a day, or about 2USD a month, but it'd take MUCH more than that just in electricity! I thought the whole point was to BTC mine on your GPU, and LTC mine on your CPU. Am I missing something?

Hi,
Sorry for posting a topic, i'm sure this has been answered before but the search function didn't bring up anything recent or relevant.

I'm looking into mining, i have 5 old servers (mix of dell/hp xeon processors)

will these be any use? they are sat in a rack with a good connection at work and i can use them as i please. or would i be more effective buying a few graphics cards?

Some of these servers are sat with phat hardware, but i imagine it will be useless to the mining software?

I'm looking to start mining, i have printed off some pages and plan to have a good read about it. i have a "self built" data center type location i can use which is air conditioned, good connection and secure.

thanks,

rb
