Don't waste all that energy, grab a frying pan and start making some breakfast in the morning with that cpu.
have you ever cooked on a 100W stove? that's what it's like to cook with your computer.

like this?? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIcY7BvVxuk&feature=related

personally I think it'd work way better on a 300W GPU

If it's a dedicated miner you can look into under clocking the CPU and disabling some cores.  Additionally, set the affinity for that process to use only one core.

But yeah, you've got other issues. I run the same CPU with the stock cooler, and it hangs around 38C idle, and low 60's under load. First thing I'd do is remove the cooler, clean all the paste off the chip and cooler, and reapply (properly!) a good thermal compound like Artic Silver. It's quite possible the CPU simply isn't transferring the heat to the heat sync.

inadequate [to 24/7 mining workload] PC case/fans setup, IMO.
note: even single single-chip GPU produce MORE heat than usual CPU.
and problem was multiply if you install more than one. and than again if you buy/pick/use cards with "non-reference" card, WITHOUT hot air exhaust[outside PC case, instead of mixing/shaking/messing it inside in in [desperate]hope, thats PC fans will flush it].

I cleaned a lot of dust out of the CPU fan just now. It's currently hanging out around 65C. I think I've got it Cheesy

Some quick suggestions...

Get more air movement through your case.

Make sure you have equal fans pulling air in as pulling air out.

Make sure the flow of air seems "right" and its going over your components not short circuting.

Make sure all dust is removed.

Make sure the fans are WORKING.

What is causing my CPU to get so hot? What can I do about it? Using DiabloMiner with the following parameters (anybody know what -g does?):

DiabloMiner-Windows.exe -u xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx -p x -o mining.eligius.st -r 8337 -g 5 -v 2 -w 128 -D1

If anyone is wondering I have a core i7 920 with stock cooling. Before anyone gives me a lecture on stock cooling, I'm not going through the trouble of switching out my CPU cooler unless I absolutely have to. That said, I'm looking for "intensity" parameters I can possibly change to reduce CPU load.
