I dont think I understand the reason for the rise in transaction fee of ETH to that height today. Even when the market dump at that level transaction fee rose higher. maybe there was more transaction to exchange for stable. More also, most DEX does not allow setting order or stop loss, so there was no reason for the sudden rise in number of transaction. At the end of June if ethereum transaction was not significant reduce, it might get people more confused.
It was a really nice round number today , so i thought its worth to make a screenshot 
It was the time, when a lot of ppl started to dump they ETH's today , and the price fallen to the 1900$ range .
8 hours later we are back to the more affordable Transaction fees ... :
