No i still did this not do this.  I just never did it.

I want to know if others here has done it.

haven't done it personally, but here are some user experiences pulled from reddit. it sounds like it takes some back and forth with coinbase support, but most people get it sorted out within a few days to a couple weeks:

and this is what coinbase's support page says to do now:

hey there so im going to do this soon but i haven't done it in a while. But anyone here done this?

You did it last year, right? How did it go? You might consider sending them a support message to confirm the process still works the same way.

It sounds like you should really consider backing up your 2FA codes. Losing a phone shouldn't cause you to lose access to your accounts. When I enable 2FA, I put the code in at least 2 devices and then keep a paper copy in case of hardware failure.

If you're worrying about the TOS, you're free to check it.

COINBASE USER AGREEMENT
2.1. Registration of Coinbase Account. In order to use any of the Coinbase Services, you must first register by providing your name, an e-mail address, password, and affirming your acceptance of this Agreement. Coinbase may, in our sole discretion, refuse to allow you to establish a Coinbase Account, or limit the number of Coinbase Accounts that a single user may establish and maintain at any time.
If I understand it correctly, the bolded phrase means that a single user could have more than one account, it's just that Coinbase will decide if how many you could maintain.

COINBASE PRIVACY POLICY
If you close your Coinbase account, we will mark your account in our database as "Closed," but will keep your account information in our database for a period of time described above. This is necessary in order to deter fraud, by ensuring that persons who try to commit fraud will not be able to avoid detection simply by closing their account and opening a new account. However, if you close your account, your personally identifiable information will not be used by us for any further purposes, nor sold or shared with third parties, except as necessary to prevent fraud and assist law enforcement, as required by law, or in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
This one is about closing an account. However, the difference is that Coinbase will be the one to close yours and not you directly. That being said, they won't think that you plan to commit fraud, especially their rep advised you to do that. Just keep your proof of conversation with their rep just like what others have mentioned for future use in case they asked you.

EDIT: Same issue as you on this reddit thread, and it ended up solved Smiley

Don’t give up! They resolved my issue after a few days of creating the new account.

Hi there.  Yes that is what they told me.  They said they would close my old account.  However im not sure 100 percent as well what if they say you broke the TOS even though a coinbase rep said that is what i should do.

Just do what they say. You have the same experience on one of my colleagues. But in his case, it's forgotten email password and not 2fa.

Since you don't have an access anymore to your original account, the only way to proved that is by resubmitting your documents to be able for them to verified and matched it on your first verified account. Coinbase can't just let you give an access to your original account because they didn't even know if your claims are true. Creating a fresh and new account and resubmitting the same documents is way better so that the old account will get rid for security purposes.

And if someday Coinbase did some shit? You have some proofs, lots of proofs. Like other responders here stated, save those and archive for future references.

Their support represents them. And in any case I doubt that coinbase will be this anal about this. So many people have lost their 2fa that they probably have a standard procedure for it already, so it's not just you even in the event of them accusing you of breaking the Tos.

If you're really unsure, then dig out the Tos, find any clauses that you may be in violation of, and ask support directly.

But as far as i know, there is no harm here. You're not going to even have two cacounts because before your second account is opened your old one will be closed. And plus, the second account isn't opened by you. And furthermore, there's thousands of people that have multiple coinbase accounts without issues., that they have deliberately opened themselves.

They are the ones that instructed you to create a new one because they can't recover your old account right?

Archive, screenshot and save all the conversation so that you can use it also in the future if something goes wrong. But if its their rep then you don't have to doubt it.

That's how customer support works, they are giving solutions according to the situation and that's the solution that they can give to you so you can try it out.

I have an old coinbase account that i got verified a long time ago.  However, i don't have the google authenticator anymore as my old phone does not work anymore with it.  I also do not have that phrase etc.

I told coinbase my issue with this.  Then i went and clicked on no longer have my 2FA device.  When i go to that page and enter my information, i get an error message.  Coinbase then tells me because of this error which is common, i have to create a brand new coinbase account.  They said once i do that, i submitt my verification documents, then i can start using them.  They also said they would close my old coinbase account.  First off, has anyone here created a second coinbase account due to this issue?  They told me its no problem at all.  Of course i dont want an issue later on if they said only one coinbase account allowed etc.  They said they would close the old one once i create the new one etc.

Thanks.

If they clearly told you that you should be opening a new account, then do it. Save the emails and screenshot them, basically archive them so in case that anything goes wrong in the future, you've got proof that they told you this information.

Plus, if your old account was going to get closed anyways, I just don't see a problem. Nothing is going to overlap, etc.

The only problem that you may have would be the banks that you may have linked your account to, which apparently have started to crack down on some crypto exchange transactions. But that's not going to be related to opening a new account in any way.

I don't think there will be any issue if they told you they would close your old account.

AFAIK you wouldn't even be able to verify your new account with the same name if your old one was still functional. Or maybe you should just stop using Coinbase and start using a different exchange (preferably that cares about Bitcoin and has Segwit, like Gemini or BitStamp) since Coinbase pretty much sucks.
