great initiative! but doubt it will succeed as we thought. Like give away altcoin! If the islanders doesn't really understand the advantage BTC will bring to us, they will dump them right away!

Every single person (who has SMS texting) of a yet to be named Caribbean island nation will soon become lucky recipients of a small amount of bitcoin, effectively creating the largest and highest density bitcoin community in the world – most of who are unbanked.

It’s part of an experiment called Let The Bit Drop, and is being conducted by the people at Coinapult and Aspen Assurance who, along with giving everyone bitcoin, are throwing a full-island party for the new bitcoiners. The event is expected to take place sometime in late 2014 or early 2015, and organizers are currently looking for sponsors and donations.
“The Bit Drop will be sending Bitcoin to every resident with SMS texting on this Caribbean island — roughly tens of thousands of people who call this island home will be part of a unique experience. Each islander will own Bitcoin and celebrate in style with well-known surprise musical artists who support Bitcoin, fire dancers, sponsored tropical island spirits, free giveaways, and full bitcoin education booths during the event,” says the event’s webpage.

“We will create local information centers to educate people about Bitcoin and how to use their new digital wallets and then celebrate in style during the island’s holiday season.”
Organizers say that they have full support of the island’s government, and that they plan to distribute educational Bitcoin materials via government channels prior to the party, and plan to reach out to local businesses to encourage them to accept bitcoin. They even plan on setting up ATMs on the island nation.
