I wouldn't criticize your point because I'm a socialist student, I conceive your point empathetically. to be honest, we humans made up the word Crime it's basically deviant behaviors that has been set out by law or has attached some sanctions to it making it seems so strong whereas it could be a norm in so certain society (culture).
Like one of the social scientist Thomas hobbes said " In a society without law, life will be nasty, brutish and short. In as much as law is important crime too has its own value. I know that point will be criticize but that's the truth. without crime there will be no law, crime is as important as law in the society.
From my perspective crime has both negative and positive impact in the society, only few people understands this.
Being aware of what crime is and feeling empathy for other human beings is different though. What do you think came first within civilization: crime or law? To me, it is obvious that crime came first and because of the negative consequences which started to be too blatant in the earliest civilizations laws were born to discourage criminals to continue to attempt against the rights of their fellow citizens.
Crime does not have anything positive to offer to our societies, otherwise, law would not be so important and universal in any civilized country on this planet.
By the way, the fact you call yourself a "socialist student" only reinforces the talking points of the extreme right about people from the left to be more likely to release criminals to the streets after being locked up. Since, you believe there is something positive in crime I can only assume you have never been a direct victim of criminals. I wonder whether you would continue to think this way if you were. (Hopefully you won't ever be).
