^ Suppose you're talking about Bitcoin Plus? A browser based cpu miner: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Browser_Bitcoin_Miner

I'm not sure.. I think it was a different name and the page looked different (was a Java applet I think).

In general I think such a software is not necessarily bad, if the user is informed about what's happening.

This has been going on for many years now. Some of these crime organizations even have established affiliate programs.  Grin They are paying around $10 for every 1,000 infected systems. I have no idea how much they make out of this method, but I believe that the total annual revenues might be running in to millions of US Dollars.

i think your news is severely outdated.  this malware was for year 2013 and it is not new . besides nowadays it is not going to mine anything (at least not bitcoin) because of the difficulty.
besides it is going to be obvious if it starts mining on a pc and the CPU, or GPU usage goes up. you don't need to be an expert or even check for it to feel that your computer resources are being used.

Could we say the so called crime organizations are just low entry hackers or groups that are dedicated to fishing and hijacking computers on malware to steal passwords and data from your computers.

Just writing some code
Very interesting how Russian crime organizations are using malware to create an army of bitcoin miners

Can't mine bitcoin with CPU anymore. They couldn't can mine a dollar a day with 100 PCs. The malware is out of date. They would get much more by stealing form bitcoin wallets than mining.  Cheesy

Doesn't necessarily have to cpu mine. The software could also gpu mine and cpu mine, although both are less effective than ASICs. With a large enough botnet, it could be very profitable. Either way, the hacker is still profiting because he has no expenses to pay for using other people's electricity and computing power.

If at all they will be mining altcoins. Bitcoin mining malware is not a new phenomenon and has been around since years.

I also remember some kind of Java software that was introduced for (more or less) clean motives: To replace advertising on websites by using the visitor's CPU to generate earnings. Unfortunately, I've forgotten the name...

How does a bunch of hijacked laptops compete with a dedicated Chinese mining farm?

Keep it dense, yeah?
Very interesting how Russian crime organizations are using malware to create an army of bitcoin miners, and they are even using affiliates to get the job done! Has anyone here been infected with this malware FeodalCash?

Did you know that there exists viruses that lock all your files with passwords, u need to pay the criminals 400-1000 dollars in bitcoin on a Tor browser. So no one can track them. When u paid u get the password to unlock all your own files. But the worst part is that people get paid to install it to other via email. So this affialiate is even worsen than bitcoin mining affiliate.

That practice has been going on for a while I believe, only now I guess that Bitcoin provides a nicer mechanism for receiving payment.

As unfortunate as it would be to have such a demand made of you in exchange for access to your own data, it would be interesting to see how the 'average Joe' user might go about procuring the required coins.

The fact that there is an affiliation for these kind of scams is real nasty - reminds me of some of the dice scams that have been in the past.

Virus total flagged feodalcash as malware.

I remembered a mining pools in the early of 2012 , this mining pool provides a mining script that can be implemented to website or blog , I have submitted that script onto my website and whoever opened my website, this script will automaticaly infects their PC, after 2 weeks google banned my website and flagged it as malware.

ahha noone going to trust you here again!

Just saying the truth , I don't know it was a malware and I am a noob at that time, my pc also got crashed after few days, it was the first and last time I've tried to mine btc.

no my cpu in idle consume 0%, so i doubt they are using my desktop, same thing for gpu, unless they managed to code a program that use less than 0.1% or soemthing, unlikely, becuase they will not then tons of other cpu to replace that percentage

but botnet isn't something new, there was a case with a tournaments for counter strike, were dev of that tournament were using cpu of the competitors, to mine btc

True. And earlier this year utorrent also installed a cryptocurrency miner without asking in the install process. https://torrentfreak.com/utorrent-quietly-installs-riskware-bitcoin-miner-users-report-150306 Probably still very obvious though when it sends the cpu to 100% usage in some computers. Guess the ads and offers aren't enough for them anymore.
