The idea of gathering all updates in one place is really great, but it can't be done here.
It's really hard to keep visiting this thread and cheking if there are any news. Also, any one can post here so, how can you trust what they publish?

Why could it not be done here? As for that anyone could publish that is true, but it is not hard to fact check. The updates I made about Bitcoin Cash and that you need to update to a new IOTA wallet is something you can check very easy once you know about it.

I don't understand why everyone is so sceptical about this, I would love to get this rolling.

There was actually one other critical update I saw from Trezor, that you need to update your Trezor to the latest firmware because there was a serious secrurity issue found where peolpe could hack your trezor if you have the old firmware, so anyone who have missed that and own a trezor should do it asap. Check their blog for more info: https://blog.trezor.io/trezor-firmware-security-update-1-5-2-5ef1b6f13fed

Please post if you know any other critical updates in crypto that people need to know about.

I just sometimes rely on the crypto Exchanges news and updates, info gathering is not easy here, shitty comments are all over the place

I am awaiting such a service, too.  At the moment, I rely on my friends' information in Facebook and Twitter (social filtering).

There are certainly a lot of information in many websites. The problem is low signal-to-noise ratio. Screening information costs a lot.

I would like to subscribe to only the important information related coins I have.
This idea has caught my attention also. It would be a very big help for all those who are following crypto currencies. We would be able to save our time. The information, I hope so would be authentic and significant one. This way, I will be able to make some important decisions quickly about my asset also. However, I will keep an eye on some specific coins.

Let it be what it's gonna be, I am not against your vision but if you want people to be spoon feed then it is up to you but my only point is that if you let them know everything especially this critical things easily the downside will be this thread will be full of trash news that will benefit those who will take advantage of it, if you know what I mean. Let themselves discover what things will gonna be and believe to it or not. It is just my opinion by the way.

I really don't want it to be trash news. The point is that this should be one place where one can go to get critical updates like I listed in my original post. I guess mainly when there are wallet changes to coins where you need to migrate over to a new wallet or convert your coin.

Have anyone seen any such news for a wallet or coin in the past months? The only two I have noticed and that I wrote about in my original post was for IOTA and NEO. Also of course that you should be aware of Bitcoin Cash split.

What I am looking for is a one stop place you can go to, to easy get yourself updated on all the "critical" things you need to know about if you are involved in crypto.

I have three main sources for Bitcoin and cryptocurrency news:

1) Twitter--you need to follow lots of Bitcoin people, but this is the fastest way to get news.
2) Bitcoin Discussion on bitcointalk--usually major news (and discussion thereof) gets posted here and left for a few days before being moved to the proper forum.
3) r/bitcoin--increasingly difficult to read. Twitter is definitely best if you can go through the pain of developing a good follow list.

No matter what it is that’s happening in the platform, you won’t miss it no matter when you logged into the bitcointalk.org forum. But it will always be best to use other online sources like Reddit, Bitcoin.com, cointelegragh.com and the rest (most especially Reddit, cos you will meet lots of people including developers and lot more to discuss with and find out the latest trends. Bitcoin.com is also good, though I’m not much into it, I normally prefer cointelegraph.com and Reddit (especially Reddit.)

I think for critical updates about crypto's, this forum is the best source of it. We also have reddit posters and even administrators who are regulars of this forum. So for me, no updates about the crypto industry will go without anyone posting it in our forum. Blogs and News articles are not a good place because most of them are payed so its gonna be biased and unreliable source. You can just go here for about 10 minutes a day to check for updates in bitcoin and alt coin section.

I think it would be much easier with a single thread like this where you can get all the critical updates. I am not talking about every updates, but just updated that you really need to know, like the 4 I listed.

Scawanging through twitter and dossens of different posts is just the thing I want to avoid. I am not so sure I would get a critical news about having to change the wallet for IOTA for examble by looking in the forums here unless I know exactly where and what to look for. I could not see it when I looked for it. I only found it by going to reddit and looking on the IOTA section.

HODLing is an art, not just a word...
for bitcoin related updates which are related to critical matters there used to be an alert system in bitcoin core which was removed!
now all you can do is to
- visit bitcoin.org and look at the top to see the alert
- subscribe to mailing list and see a lot of stuff which may not interest you or not even understand half of it (since it is technical)
- visit news sites such as coindesk to read up on news every once in a while
- visit bitcointalk to read the top of the page above the toolbar (Home, Help, Search,...) that is the critical news section

for altcoins you need to check their announcement topic again read the news sites and subscribe to their reddit sub or something similar (slack, twitter,...)

If you want important/critical news about cryptocurrencies Reddit subreddits are the right place.
I don`t trust cryptocurrency news blogs. Most of the them are more "propaganda" oriented and have fake news. You mentioned that you found out about the recent IOTA changes on Reddit. There`s no need to make such forum theard here or to search for a specific website or app.Reddit is the place to get news and updates.

I am making this thread since I don't know if any exist and I really want something like this. If there is something like this out there, please point me towards it. What I am looking for is a one stop place you can go to, to easy get yourself updated on all the "critical" things you need to know about if you are involved in crypto.

Say you are a busy person and you only have time to check up on what is happening in crypto once a week, once a month, or maybe even less times (and even if you can do it daily and don't monitor everything it is easy to miss stuff), but you want to be in the loop if something critical has happened that needs your attention. My hope is that this thread will be that with the help of us all, and that people will post things here that are very important to know about so if you would go to one place to keep yourself updated on what has happened that is very important to know, this would be the place.

For example I have seen 4 such critical things over the last months:

- The first was the potential fork on august 1 and that you needed to prepare for it and potentially move your BTC to a wallet you controlled to be safe depending on what would happen.

- The second one was the Bitcoin Cash split. It would have been important to know that Bitcoin Cash would be airdropped to Bitcoin holders so that you at least knew about it and could prepare or take advantage of this situation to get your Bitcoin Cash.

- The third one is the wallet migration for the IOTA wallet. I was totally unaware and just by accident surfed into the IOTA reddit section to find out you need to migrate over your seed to a new released wallet.

- The forth was that Antshares changed their name to NEO, and that you now can/should download their new NEO wallet and import your Antshares into it.

These sort of critical updates that are important to know is what this thread is for (of course all might apply or not apply to you specifically if you don't hold a particular coin the update is affecting), and it would be great if people could post things here that are fitting this category. I am sure I have missed many updates, maybe there have been other wallets etc that needs to be upgraded or migrated for other coins in the past months, or maybe there is a coin that is discontinued and you need to convert it on their site to another coin etc etc.

Please post such thing here now and in the future that you think would be important for other people to know!
