That is just the bad side of cryptocurrency. I don't know may be one has to have a confider who has access to one's wallets because it will be so unfortunate to have such fund and get it wasted when when the people that should benefit from it cannot when one dies.

I think for such cases the real family members or dependants should be given access to the wallet as it is their right, i know crypto does not work like this but if we think ethically i think there should be a way out.

Absolutely not. The whole point of crypto is complete control of your money, without having to rely on banks. With complete control comes complete responsibility.

So all this money has lost permanently or there is a way to retrieve it. As far as i know without private keys its kind of impossible to do that.

Correct. If, as the article states, he has not left his family any instructions on how to access his wallets, then his funds will forever be locked in those addresses. It has happened many times already, and will happen even more times in the future.

The cryptocurrency millionaire Matthew Mellon
died of a heart attack on April 16th, leaving more
than 500 million dollars in ripple, that most
likely, his family won’t be able to retrieve. The
millionaire had faced drug problems since 2009,
and supposedly was clean and sober, according to
a news report from the Daily Mail .
