There's existence of crypto scams and they're growing to become popular and most investors now have a clue about the projects.

We shouldn't take scammers for granted thinking we know everything about them and all their scamming techniques because if we can learn about them and their ways of scamming people, they can learn about this fact and improve their ways as well. This is the reason why scammers are becoming smarter day by day, you won't see them repeating the same scams very often and there are some scams and exploits that would even deceive an experienced person with a very high IQ. So we need to be vigilant at all times and from every single thing.

Suppose you are talking specifically about cryptocurrency projects that try to scam people. In that case, that's easy and of course, someone with a little experience in the market can identify which projects are here to stay and which ones are just collecting donations from people for their lives and will eventually run away with them.

Whatever it is you are referring to, we should have self-awareness at all times to stay safe from scams and scammers.

Statistically, there is usually a high percentage of people coming into the crypto market in the bull season. So we have newbies coming into the crypto world with little knowledge of how it works. And depending on where they choose to seek for help, they might fall victim to scams. Those who come to Bitcointalk are fortunate, others who find their way to crypto telegram groups and dm of Instagram traders will likely lose their money.
These media platforms are usually not scouting for legit news, atleast pleasant to the ears. Our money is safe and it can only be traceable when we released our discreet 12 phrases. Crypto is very important to everyone that has a basic knowledge of the new world, that means they're always doing the necessary actions to carry out tasks which might later become aides for everyone close by. There's existence of crypto scams and they're growing to become popular and most investors now have a clue about the projects.

Hello, I have a question for you that regards crypto scams. In the years since I started to invest in bitcoin, I have come to understand that there are different types of crypto scams and fraudulent activities depending on whether we are in a bull run or a bear market cycle. For example just as we are looking at reaching a new bitcoin ATH soon, I can imagine that certain opportunistic scams may become more prevalent as bad actors try to capitalize on the hype and mania. Also, I think that in the bear markets there will also be another kind of scam where scams try to take advantage of the fear and desperation some investors feel.  Due to the changing landscape of crypto scams between bull and bear cycles, what are some of the typical scams to watch out for in each market condition?
I was once a victim of crypto Scam and thanks to this post,I am getting more exposed on how to avoid been scam again..much appreciation sir.

I think that in the bear markets there will also be another kind of scam where scams try to take advantage of the fear and desperation some investors feel.  Due to the changing landscape of crypto scams between bull and bear cycles, what are some of the typical scams to watch out for in each market condition?

During the bear market, the market is usually illiquid, there is limited amount of money coming into the crypto market, so it's ways difficult for scammers to get money even with their new tricks to take people's money. Nobody find joy in seeing crash and crashed of the market, in this period new investors and noons do exit the market and since scammers always target inexperienced and naive people, they don't see money that much.

However, you see bull market? That's the time everyone becomes expert even when they know nothing, they get excited about the market and fail to follow up even the basic caution of the market and scammers been the smart individuals, they prey on this ignorance and steal from them. No matter what how woke crypto looks to many people and expose, there are still people that lose money to ordinary telegram groups like the one I just read the other time.

Scammers are everywhere, they will come and be their victim if we remain ignorant and greedy. They don't set a date for them to come, it can be every day as they don't look for the day but instead, they look at someone who potentially becomes a victim. In fact, they don't tell us that they are scammers and sometimes have been clever with their actions showing they are not scammers. Because most of the time, people just know that they are scammers when someone has been scammed already. That is why we should know who to trust and whom we should keep a distance but there is one thing we should have to do in order to avoid them and that is not to easily trust strangers especially when talking about money.

Crypto scams are normal we can't do without them . Scammers are always around us in our daily activities and trying to avoid them in financial activities is what we can't stop or end.

Crypto scams are very pleasing for thieves because of its digital currency mode since the consumers of the digital currency have small ideas on how it works and save their assets. Scammers are very smart and technical, when it's about making people fall for their scams like Business opportunities, fake jobs, impersonation scams , phishing scams, investment scams,Bitconnect scam,Bitclub Network scams e.t.c. In other to prevent yourself from these scammers, verify your contact information, Incase of investment don't rush to invest and use cold storage to store your assets.

Ok, I get it now. There are no different types of scams in either the bull or bear market. Rather what we have is the increase in crypto scams. And these scams happens in the bull season just like we are in now . Therefore I should be expecting to see more of this scams from Telegram, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube because they capitalize on FOMO or other factors.

I pretty much follow projects from start to finish, lots of scam projects that offer unreasonable returns and unclear teams. Now there are more and more phishing and shitcoin projects which will only harm many people. every market condition or like now, more and more fraudulent projects are appearing, so you need to be careful and do detailed research.

You are right there are many scams circulating round the cryptocurrency space but it is not even necessary to have to know them all because it will be a waste of time as scammers are deploying new ways everyday. Look at phishing scam through wallet connect, it is a very old trick since the existence of this space and yet people still fall victims of it. This is not gullible people but rather people with knowledge. The reason why scammers will always get victims is because people are either careless on little things Like the security of their wallet or the greediness of people.

Conquering those two things will be the part way to not getting scammed. This two things will teach you that only scammers will come to your DM to tell you about investment opportunities because I don’t think humans love each other to that extent to just DM them about opportunities

There is no specific scam in the bear market or bull market. It is just that when scammers try one scam, and it has been known, they try to come out with a new one, so that people will be a novice to it, and for victim. So what matters is that we should be careful with the links that we click on, and also we should be careful of offers that are too good to be real. Offers like doubling of crypto when you register in a site, clipboard malwares and also download your software from the original site. Everyday new scams are introduced. Greed can also make one fall victim for these scammers.
Scamming does not have season and scammers are always developing ways to continue there act of scheme. And if we are to talk about scams during market it will be around the bull run that is when everyone will want to be involved in crypto. When they ask them to buy they will feel reluctant. So when the price is high. People will be looking for ways to make money and that period when you ain't careful that is when you will get scammed because that is when you start seen ads about investment opportunities for bull run we just have to be very careful. Because they don't scam people only with crypto they can use any other thing to scam. But the thing is that people that fall victim are always learning the hard way. And that way they won't fall victim again. Any thing that looks good to be true we should avoid it in addition. Any app your using related to crypto check the review and do your own research don't just take your money anywhere. And try and play safe.

One of these Many scams to watch out for have to be the scam of investment that doubles your capital in few hours or days, a proper Bitcoin investment is never supposed to promise such because almost every Bitcoin investors who understands the dynamics of Bitcoin over the years will understand that it doesn't work that way except in peculiar cases where there's a Bull run but then it's still not a legitimate way to invest in Bitcoin, some of them pose as traders posting results that could be false and tell you they trade  and could filp your portfolio in space of hrs or days, Ina as much as this is very possible, only a few are genuine out there and the few genuine ones are actually very small .

Don't fall for any investment trading deal or offers, rather try to trade by yourself if you so desire or best buy and HODL, that way you can be sure your assets are most safe and will generate a good amount of profit for you if you give it the number of time necessary for it to get such profit.

Good question OP.

In every bear market, scammers knew that people will try as much as possible to find means of surviving the hard time and also find means to accumulate some crypto for long term hold, so they go along with free tokens through airdrops and testnets.

They are also active on those legit airdrop channels for example on Twitter and they will try to blend in as if they are also helping people to take advantage of some new crypto projects, they start dropping link to fake airdrops and testnet tasks...hoping that someone clicks on the links.

Thing is, people will always be desperate to find means to survive the bear market, that's where the scammers will get the best of them.

In every bull market, hype and fomo is another good advantage of bad actors to take advantage of people, they will create turns of fake or scam projects hoping that it will catch the attention of newbies and new investors then they will dump on them after.

It doesn't matter which season we are in, scams in crypto space are growing higher and they will always try to take advantage of people, where money is flowing into, it's sure that scammers will be there also.

It is at this bull run market season that scams are made rampant due to the excitement of investors about the season being a season of profit making, and they would wan t to come with these popularized scam technics we have made discovery of as co-members has listed in the above replies, it is therefore pertinent to stay vigilant by treating every unknown person, site, links, and offers online as a potential scam. its easier to fall for scams we don't know of than those we are privileged to know of that's why scammers will likely want to come with new unsuspecting technique but when we all treat all forms of attempt as a potential scam it makes it difficult for us to fall to scammers this season.

what are some of the typical scams to watch out for in each market condition?

One thing about the scammers is that they use the current market trending experience to form a way they can use to attack the people, we are the one that should know the ways to possibly detect seeing any of such attempt on us before we fall into their traps, you can read more about the common types of crypto scams here https://www.techtarget.com/whatis/feature/Common-cryptocurrency-scams

In addition, there's a way they also scam people as i have said earlier by using the trending economic news and crypto updates to scam people using any format, i will set some areas they can take advantage on by propagating fake news to attract people on the latest happening in crypto space.

1. some can use ordinance to scam by coming with many dimensions of how they can use this for attack
2. Bitcoin ETF scam, as we all know that there's much discussions ongoing about bitcoin ETF
3. Bitcoin Halving, some can be scammed as well on this, when they receive any information on this aspect that is fake
4. Free tokens scam, they can promise you with free tokens and set a means to attack you through such offer on their platform

these are just few examples of how they can set a target to scam us on any of the trending events on the crypto space aside the common modes of operandi used in scamming as mentioned from the link above.

The scammers are constantly evolving, if you see some kind of scam today then probably they will come with more convincing kind of scam tomorrow that is why it's important to stick with the basics and don't let the greed to blind the common sense. In bull season the most common kind of scam is fake project pretending to be a project that is trending also have everything resembles in one way or another and hoping that people will make the wrong move when they are in hurry.

Its not about the market condition but the willingness of other people to take advantage on situation and scammers will scam people whatever season we are experiencing. But expect a lot of scam will rise at bullish season or other called bull run since they take advantage of people thinking that there's a lot of opportunities for them at that time to earn.

That's why there's a lot of scammers will create a token to introduce to people and then scam them. We see this to happen always and there's a lot of meme coin rise up at this times so we need to be cautious on joining anything which offer us to good to be true profit since usually that is just a scam.

There's countless types of scams and new scams get invented every day. You can't learn them all, but you can simply use logic to avoid all scams not only in crypto but in real life too. If someone asks you to give them money and promise something in return, they are most likely a scammer. You should generally only send money after the other party delivered what they promised. Of course this can't apply to investment, so invest  only in those businesses that you trust - and you can't trust anonymous people on the Internet ever.

Scammers don't go on holidays, they are there every single minutes of our life waiting for their baits to catch.

I'm not a scammer so I would know the specific scam that will be used this time to exploit investors but with old experience of how they have been operating, ponzi scheme scams are more like to keep it's stand because of the bulll season and at the same time it's also used in the bear market because people might want to withdraw there profit during bear market and then they can get scammed.

You can also be mindful of wallets scam, and if scammed already be mindful of recovering lost funds scam etc. there are many scams that you should be mindful of.

Crypto scammers really work with market trends, developing methods to be employed during both bear and bull markets. They are constantly looking for new ways to expand their fraudulent activities, but they are largely chasing greedy people who want to get rich as soon as possible.

Although they will develop different methods in any market circumstance, whether bearish or bullish, we must exercise caution and avoid being greedy.

It's never related to any particular market conditions as these scammers are active with some or the other scams throughout the year but they get more victims during bear and bull seasons as that's when people wants to earn more and falls for the scams. But if we are cautious enough then these scammers can't do anything. It's just the greed and ignorance which makes people fall for their traps.

Throughout my years in the crypto space and since joining this forum, I have not seen a specific scam that will be targeted for so long and continue to defraud people. After a while, I believe those scammers will find a way to rebrand the scam so that the process of scamming will be different than before, but the end goal will remain the same; defrauding their victims of their hard earned money.

New scams emerge on a regular basis, and if you are only aware of one type, you will be carried away without knowing when the other will scam you through another means. Scams are common, so you must be vigilant and always look for red flags in any of these scams so that you can recognise one when you see it. There are no specifics, and if you are told about some, try to learn more about others rather than becoming overly focused on one type.

The problem now is that scammers have no specific areas of specialization and they don't have a particular way of scamming people if not every body would have known their tricks and how to avoid them but since they are very smart to be able to keep bringing out different ways to scam people, I think the best way to avoid them is by doing exactly what Mia Chloe said and to be able to achieve that one has to stay totally off from anything that is cryptocurrency related that is tagged free or invest a little to earn so much this is the easiest way they get their victims through free airdrops, offering help to those who are having issues with their wallet and so on. To stay free from scammers one must be smarter than them and the best way to do that is to be informed just like we are now.

When you talk about cryptocurrency and scam especially in these period, they are like one and two and when we go specific then we talked about scams like the airdrop scam, these are more popular and people do partake in them on a large scale due to the simplicity it brings and also for that the fact that even the real airdrops are similar in same participation patterns so it somehow difficult to identify them until the final claiming process and thats where most of them turn out to be shit.

Scammers don't chose dates on when they will make their new and next move. They always ride the current issue, news, event, etc. then make their move. But one thing is for sure the motive is obvious and it's to make their next victim fall for it with monetary value. As long as you know it's too good to be true offer, suspicious users suddenly messaging you, new created website, fake apps and websites (google search is a huge help) then you're good..

Well for starter avoid the telegram or social chats. These people are usually pretending to be an admin or someone authorize about certain concern and eventually will lead you on the scam site. These are the one you should avoid.

Next is the links. Most people got scammed due to airdrop and dropping on fake links that they thought the real one. These are the common modus of them but other than that some are quite tricky method.

To avoid writing too much unnecessary text  will sum it up as a list.
  • Ponzi investment scheme
  • Airdrop scams
  • Phishing via investment ads
  • Wallet scams like fake auto trading wallets.
Most of them are common but are rampant this period.
Most importantly don't forget to keep your keys safe.
