The world how it works right now sucks, there too many greed in it and even new technology will come up again in the next few years someone wiil just be making a profit out of it. I am still amaze that crypto currency like Bitcoin still exist even though put in the hands of harsh people. Unless people ideas change there would  not be any good in the community. Sacrifices of the masses needs are done for the benefits of the few elites out there. Crypto will not go any further unless they are remove from the society entirely.

they are secure, programmable and don't require  middlemen

Really? What about all the cryptocurrency exchange platforms and online wallets?Aren't they a "middleman"?
I still don't think that crypto/blockchain is a "superior" technology, despite all it's advantages over fiat.
We need further improvement and we need to simplify it,so the average Joe,who isn't very tech savvy can understand how it works.

a decentralized currency like bitcoin doesn't need a middle mad when you are using it as a currency which was the intended purpose of it from day one that it was invented. but when you use it in any other way that is not its purpose such as for trading and profit making then you are going to use third parties and middle men such as exchanges.

Everyone knows that, but the government is blocking the world from connecting with Blockchain. This technology is really good but it is being exploited by bad sectors. So that's why it grows slowly. However, it will soon be applied in some large enterprises.
Of course we can take example Microsoft IBM already accept bitcoin even UNICEF accept bitcoin and altcoin donation. Steadily, people are accepting crypto and technology

In my opinion, I do not think fiat money will be replaced by cryptocurrencies as most of the people has not yet become familiar and mass adaptation is not yet in full scale in the current situation. Moreover, the popularity of the cryptocurrency is now being recognized by many people and the advantages it has served to the public has a remarkable effect with respect to transaction payments which is much faster and convenient to the user.
We have already seen that even UNICEF is accepting Bitcoin Fund. As we can see people prefer shopping online rather than  going  Shopping mall as a result Amazon owner is richest person in the world. we here will not discuss the shopping , but rather look at technology and its use. Technology new idea  are being accept by people . Furthermore crypto are instant and more secure compare to fiat currency. Definitely, ccryptocurrencies will take time to be familer and gain trust from people. You also read this thread for further  info https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.45831670
Thank for your opinion

fiat money doesn't have to die for bitcoin to grow and bitcoin growing doesn't have to kill fiat to replace it. bitcoin can and will coexist alongside fiat as time goes by and increases its adoption. all the country debts, shenanigans that we see in the fiat world aren't really going to kill it in my opinion. not to mention that decentralized currency is not some perfect solution to save every problem of the monetary world. it has problems of its own.
I suppose when the crypto are legalize the use of fiat currency will be low. As we see in the initial era people use barter exchange but after the fiat currency was introduced slowly barter exchange was disappear. People now a days need more transparent easy and instant thing so I personally believe that crypto is far better than fiat currency in term of technology and transparency.

Necessity vs. Superiority

There are two competing theories about how cryptocurrency will go mainstream.
•   Superior technology: Cryptocurrencies are the future of money. They are secure, programmable and don’t require middlemen. The possible applications are endless.

•   Necessity: Fiat money, as the entire world uses it today, always collapses. Always. There’s nothing backing today’s currencies, and government spending around the world is out of control. When the current system collapses, crypto will take its place.

It’s important to note that there is some overlap between these theories.

Many of us believe they will feed off each other.
Most people acknowledge that there’s something wrong with the current system.

It’s easy to see the outlines of the problem – huge deficits, reckless spending
and money printing.
Historically, this situation tends to lead to massive money printing and eventually hyperinflation,
which brings about a “debt reset.”

It’s happened time and time again.

Almost every country in the world has been through it multiple times.

All of Europe, South America and Africa has seen this ugly cycle occur.
We can see these forces at work today in certain areas around the world.

As I frequently point out, any country that has high inflation, debt and monetary
woes tends to be a crypto hot spot: Venezuela, Argentina, many parts of
Africa and, just recently, Iran.
Almost anywhere there’s a lack of trust in central banks and government,
there’s a thriving crypto community.

It has now spread across the entire world.

And it’s all fueled by a thirst for new technology and distrust of the political establishment
and the establishment monetary system.
People don’t talk about the more controversial aspects of crypto enough.

The eventual collapse of the local currency is not considered polite dinner table conversation.

But it’s the reason there’s so much passion behind the movement.

People want a better system.

They want one that is fair.

One they can choose to participate in, rather than having it forced down their throats.
People want currencies that can’t be devalued/printed
at the whim of some academic at a central bank.
But we also want the best technology.

Money hasn’t evolved for several hundred years.

It’s time for some accelerated evolution.
So while people tend to buy into one of two primary arguments for cryptocurrency (superiority or necessity), I tend to take a more holistic perspective.

We need cryptocurrency for both reasons.
