Is there a specific coin you want to mine, or are you basing the algorithm choice off of hardware that you already have?  In either case, having a solar or wind powered system is probably everyone's dream setup.

Yes I figure the now discounted CryptoNight Original ASICs will be most efficient to run the network on, utilizing renewable energy. The project is called BUKZ [BUZ]. I'm panning out the details and building an offgrid system to power one ASIC, and expanding from there while giving the details to the community and possibly partaking in group buys later on.

I agree mining CryptoNight Original with GPU's will likely not be profitable. Though the ASICs are cheap and perfect for the application I have in mind.

You can forget about mining the old Cryptonight algo with a GPU.

If you want a cheap GPU because you don't want to shell out $800 for a 1080Ti, then get an old Radeon 7950/7970, make sure it has Samsung or Hynix memory and it will mine XMR at 600 H/s and it will use like 120-130 Watts.

Depending on your power costs you might make 2 quarters a day or so.

Or you can just get an RX 570 (if you can find one MSRP) and you will make 4 quarters a day. However those will cost you more.

Right now, everything is unprofitable.

The time to mine was last June 2017.

CryptoNight (Original) seems to be dying.

Just did a test and 1400 h/s with 2 graphic cards was giving daily 0.04 mBTC daily. Now it is a sure thing that you cannot mine the original Cryptonight algorithm with a Gpu. There are a lot of Asics which are available which are also the cause that the developers of Monero changed the algorithm to V7 which can be mined effectively with Gpu-s.

Which means the ASICs will be cheaper and can be put to use, The perfect solution for powering an anonymous decentralized currency with renewable energy!

What do you guys think the best bang for your buck is when it comes to mining CryptoNight (Original) with GPU's? ASICs? Looking for medium power constumption for a medium sized solar powered farm.

With the market standing right now? We are heading up and with bulls getting ready, I think it's better for you to buy btc/eth as the safest bet to let your money roll and earn profits. But with those choices, I prefer ASIC.

Im not quite confident with a slight bull right now

as much as TA's are concern, seems bears are still waiting to annihilate bulls

were in crypto world anyways, hope I were wrong

@OP,

Seems there were no best bang for the buck as of the moment

And you will not get any profit from cryptonight orig using GPU as ASIC's risen its difficulty

I figured as much. I will focus on ASIC's for the solar/wind farm. Right now the goal is figuring out how many panels/watts and 24v batteries it will take to keep one ASIC hammering 24/7. Then it's all expansion from there! Smiley Cheers guys.

Yes, I figured. The goal is a solar farm running a series of ASIC's mining BUKZ. Hopefully the price keeps coming down since Monero switched from the Cryptonight Original algorithm

Asic by far. I think there are no CN original coins that are profitable to mine with gpu.
