Was it a scam or just a business failure?

Did anyone invest in this company?

All the read flags point to it being a scam.

If they were not scammers and just failed then they would have at least made an announcement to the "investors" before closing shop
According to their Facebook. You can clearly see some people complaining about it in the reviews last year

Cryptonode.me was venture founded in August 2018 that created a platform for the automated setup and management of Proof of Stake nodes at scale for a portfolio of crypto networks.

Here is the public Investor Overview in Google Drive

It was part of the Blockchain Labs Asia group of companies which are no strangers to attracting controversy (try a search for " metalstream scam ").

It attempted to raise $7.5M, and used the CNODE Security Token to represent the equity of 20 investors:

It was supposed to launch a public offering in Q2 2021, but now its domain name has expired and a squatter is sitting on it.

whois shows that the current holder of cryptonode.me registered it on 2021-03-18

This a Labuan company that Blockchain Labs has promoted as "regulated" and hence safe to invest in. It is still registered:
