I wouldn't bother switching it back to btc... almost all of the coins are also tradeable with ltc.

it's not a problem. the exchanges are very easy. you can type in ltc and see the exchange rates for coins...

Yes, it should be no problem.
You have to look in BTC for LTC not in the LTC market for BTC.
It is little bit confusing, that it is in BTC market only.
But the LTC market on cryptopia has almost the same amoutn of coins and you can buy nearly every coin with LTC.
Spend some time an make your favorit lists, these you have to make for every market seperate and can take some time.
If you invest some time exploring and configuring the excahnge interface it will pay out .

I opened a Coinbase account and bought some Litecoin.  I then sent the coins over to Cryptopia.  Is there anyway to convert my Litecoins to Bitcoin on the Cryptopia platform? 

Reason being that there is more volume on an alternative coin using BTC than there is using Litecoin.
