Topic: Curious case of P&S Section - Need new sets of rules to address the problem- (Read 378 times)

Bwah hah hah!!  I've seen this complain in Meta before but never chimed in on it because I don't visit P&S and don't know how harsh Flying Hellfish is with his moderation.

If the abuse is as bad as OP says (and I've no reason to doubt him), then FH's duty is to nuke what appear to be spam threads.  That's what OP's complaint seems to fall under.  If you're creating enough threads such that most of them make up the first page of any section....that sounds pretty spammy to me.  Sure, people are going to complain that it's not rule-breaking, that it's a matter of political opinion, but that doesn't sound like reality to me.

Right, there's already rules covering what's happening.  It's a matter of enforcement, and it's only natural that some folks are going to have a problem with rules and authority.  Tough titties, IMO.  Flying Hellfish has a tough enough skin by this point to keep doing his job whilst ignoring the peanut gallery.

Agreed it's a lose lose scenario however, while B1tfuckface is a supreme troll he doesn't seem to be doing it for money (ie no paid sig).  While it is still super trolly and spammy I think it's fair to consider the reason he is posting so much (ie hes insane and not milking the forum).

I removed a few of his threads today (that were reported) that were no value useless threads.

Honestly what is really scary about P&S currently is not the fact that 2 or 3 insane halfwits come on and spam up a few threads once in a little while (and its not often) but the fact that the alt right echo chamber (that the P&S board has become) actually fucking engage the insane like they're having a normal conversation...

If people would ignore the mentally ill and report the really really blatant spam we could just let him shit in his corner once every couple of months and move on.  This being BTCT the insane seem to be valued as the norm, so, they can echo chamber themselves one conspiracy theory at a time.

This double thing reminds me of the wheat and chessboard legends. In a year some will be already banned for another year.  

We have different starting points when we analyze what must be done and you believe in the honesty and good conduct of members here, I only trust what I see, trolls after trolls, conspiracy nuts, spammers over spammers that have no real intent in discussions, they are here to impose views not anything else.

As such I see the exact opposite solution if somebody is using P&S like his own blog and has no intent on discussing, nuke his entire post history. This is the only thing they will care.
Temp ban, permaban, it doesn't matter, the nonsense, the hate speech, the stupidity he has posted is still there and he can look at it with satisfaction, then he starts with a new account. But deleting that will make really hurt him, his entire crusade would turn useless.

I guess it would be like enforcing any other rules, by deleting posts first, then temp ban if it persists. It's just that defining such a rule would be quite complicated, let alone getting users to understand it. We already have a very simple rule that says no multiple posts in a row in 24h and even that gets abused and people create whiny threads when their posts get deleted.

With all that said, I don't think B1tUnl0ck3r needs any new rules... just trash the "zero or low value, pointless or uninteresting posts or threads" and keep trashing any new ones with "pedo" in them until he gets the message. He can have one megapedothread and that would be enough.

Multi posting - Hijacking the board.

Temp ban on community discussion/no posting rights, on repeated offense double the duration and the cycle continues without nuking the account.

Yeah, let's drop the theoretical discussion and show me how you plan to clean this topic when the OP doesn't want and how are you going to prevent him from making 10 such topics a day without temp banning him as a punishment first and threaten him with a perma ban?

You've edited that topic and made is serious because you wanted that, you wanted to have a clean and informative topic (dropped merit for the efforts  ).
Just like that, the moron quoted above could do it if he feels like, but in reality, he doesn't give a fword so you will have to force him.
Bottom line, how are you going to do it without punishing him?

We already have one "serious discussion" section. i don't think we need another separate section only for trolling-conspiracy. for example check user named "Actor_Tom_Truong" s-he-it posting countless post silently in his-her thread. s-he-it not polluting complete section.

Agreed, it should be but when it comes to P&S i am yet to find any thread in P&S who updates his-her OP. i can understand if someone not giving any answer or any reasoning due to political stand/bias but one should update his topic and OP instead of posting 10 different post, when new news pops up in same incident.

Please read bold part one more time. in case if language is confusing to understand or not serving its purpose then would like to share one thread as a example. its not well written or managed thread but i think it address the problem and solution both.

Some solutions could include:
*Limit the number of threads that can be opened in P&S per week by each person
*Require somewhat similar topics to be consolidated into one, with an exception being if a particular thread has excessive activity, which might indicate some discussion might get lost if someone wanted to discuss something related to the topic.
*Creating one or more subforms within P&S

We can't really win here. Threads are removed and then people complain about 'muh threedum of speach' and how they're being silenced. We let them stay and it's just a shitfest of conspiracytard threads populated by either idiots or trolls. Yeah, most of them should probably be trashed but they probably won't be unless there's some policy or rule chance and the board tends to side with letting them stay as much of an annoyance as that may or may not be. If you don't want to see them then the best option is to just ignore the users that keep creating them.


You mean we should have a conspiracytard sub board? But who gets to decide what is what? To a nutter/troll chemtrails and the earth being flat are topics of great importance.

I saw someone who made a lot of topic/thread in just one day on P&S, so this might be the best rule to regulate them and not to post 10 threads in just one day.

This can be done on every section and I believe this is very common since you created that topic then you are responsible to answer queries or to give more information about it not unless your problem is already answered and solve.

I do suggest to add moderator on that section, so they can work together and delete all the unnecessary threads/comments. Add more rules on creating thread, like limited topic in one day or so to prevent the spam.

Would it be worth creating a sub-board for serious political discussions? There is a big difference between comments on the restrictions that the Five Eyes group are placing on Trump, and whether men or women should do the washing up. Religious discussions can cloud the issues as well. I'd love to see opinions as to whether the shift away from Petro Dollars for settlement of Iranian and Venezuelan oil sales will end the US dollar as the world reserve currency.

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen,

I try to avoid posting in this section of the forum due of many reasons and try to keep my head down with sticking to a couple of threads only because I am not much of contributor when it comes to technical stuff, Data, etc. so just an average user-poster.

P&S is one of my favorite section, and I like to follow cross-border news. sometimes I post breaking news and updates OP, from time to time in my threads. I have no problems with anybody's political leanings or biases, and I tend to keep my mind open whenever I go through in P&S because you never know, you might learn something new after reading different arguments. Last month I wanted to share a couple of suggestion to Moderator(Flying Hellfish) by contacting him directly via PM but skipped that route by thinking, " Let it be that way, who cares?"

But in the last couple of week P&S went down in the gutter and I believe this problem should be address by all means.

If anyone noticed the first 3 pages in P&S, few posters hijacked the complete section with their multi posting thread. I am all for freedom of speech, no matter how racist, cringe, ignorant statement anyone making in their argument or trolling someone. I can always put such users on "Ignore" if it's unbearable to me and move on, but this kind of posting habit should not be allowed in P&S.

My request to Mod is, please add new rules regarding posting in P&S accordingly. According to my limited understanding of the problem,  here are my few suggestions.

1. Strictly no Multi post threads or posts in a ridiculous manner.
2. Make every OP accountable for their thread ( updating news etc. in OP itself, not separate post in the form of spam)


Reporting Troll thread and nuking the account is not the answer for this kind of behavior IMHO. I would love to hear what the community has to say about this issue. And if you have any suggestions then please share.
