Holding a large amount of bitcoin the good thing that you can do is to have your own margin and every margin you sell 20% of your bitcoin more or less. depends in your strategy in order to save profit.. hold 80% if the price is going to increase you can sell the rest and you can buy bitcoins again if the price is lower than the selling price you made.. or just set a good margin in selling.

this is a good example of bitcoin price volatility.
by the time OP was complaining about missing out on price rise, price was above $1200 and now it is back where OP was buying/selling and regretting.

if you don't like the volatility just change your outlook to a long term one instead. for example if you buy at $1170 then just wait for a couple of months (like 1 to 6 months) to see profit.

for example as you can see from https://bitcoinwisdom.com/ homepage or you can calculate it yourself. right now even with the price drop that everyone is talking about, we are still in profit in the last 30 days. which means if you have bought 30 days ago you wouldn't be losing money.

Wait right now comes down again for $ 900 for btc, just put an order, the candle down should be exactly

It could drop to $900 but even putting in an order at $1000 or breaking it into 2 orders would still give a good profit margin.  Either way is better than placing a buy at $1170

I do not think that bitcoin rate dropped to lower than 1000$. The value today marking around 1150$ and more than that. This would be base value for this year and price won't dump lower than this. Heavy adoption and demand of btc in the market. This is pulling the up. Still many companies are initializing blockchain technology this seems good for btc as well.

if the price is down or even is up, the only thing that we should know is we need to be prepare from now and if after etf is release, the price is down, we don't have to get panic. there are many possibility for the price and its better to gets ready for the bad situations. if the price is drop until that price, then i think its the good time for us to buy more bitcoin so we have more stocks of bitcoin in our wallet.

So I had a good amount of bitcoins, then decided it was good to sell all of it during $1185.

I was thinking I would buy again at $1170, but obviously the price just kept shooting up and I was shooting my foot for selling too early.

With the boring USD I am now holding, do you any experts out there suggest I sell at some during this point or just wait and hope it goes down again?

If you had an amount of bitcoin, I would suggest never sell all your bitcoin, Now if you cannot stop yourself to selling because the price is moving up then you feel attempt to do it sell few only of bitcoins. but as much as you can hold it, be patience to keep it.
yes that will be a good decision to hold bitcoin and not to sell it in present time. as there are more chance that the price of bitcoin will increase much more in near future, therefore holding bitcoin will be a good decision.

How do you guys give an answer to the question without try to gets understand the OP's question?  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy  The OP is not holding any amount of bitcoin. he had sold his bitcoin.

I have absolutely noooooo idea.

Decide your most beneficial positions and stick to them. There might be a lot of irrational action over the next few days. Don't get caught up in them yourself. The real traders make money off the emotional moves of the regular folk. Neither dumps nor pumps last long. Make sure you're on the right side of them.

I sold again at $1274 and now waiting for the bearish turn to buy back in.

I give up on day trading, I'm too inexperienced to be chasing that $$.

So you're still day trading, albeit on a slightly longer timeline.

What do you want out of Bitcoin? A few bucks short term? Super long term gains?

Thanks to all you guys who gave me such great advice.

Long story short, I ended up buying back in at a much higher price after 1200 (+$30-$40) missed the opportunity to make the extra money.

And I've been day trading, which didn't turn out too bad. Making a few extra $100 bucks.

In the end, I didn't make as much, but I didn't lose any amount I had initially put in.

I sold again at $1274 and now waiting for the bearish turn to buy back in.

I give up on day trading, I'm too inexperienced to be chasing that $$.

I suggest that you wait for the decision on the ETF on March 11. I wouldn't place an order until after that date and definitely not for $1170. See if the price drops even lower than that. I'm looking for under $1000 to buy back in.

This place is a troll land you shouldn't ask for advice in such place, go to school then university or attend to some online courses to learn the basics of trading. this is BTC we're talking about, the time when some whale could easily manipulate the price greatly has past fortunately.
I think there are still some giants which could manipulate the price if they wanted to, it's just less likely to happen.  If Bitmain announced that they had gone bankrupt and would stop selling miners, shut down Hashnest and stop mining Bitcoin, Bitcoin would hugely collapse.  If Bitstamp screwed up like Mt. Gox, Bitcoin would hugely collapse.  The problem is that in a few ways, we are reliant on different parts of Bitcoin, especially monopolised areas, and this will never be past us entirely so we have to be aware and keep history in mind when considering the future.

its make sense that you give this advice because i see the price is too much often to up and down and i think the price will be up more high and its better that we save to see how much the price will be increase. i am selling some part of my bitcoin and yes i made profit from this but i still save the rest of my bitcoin, i only waiting the next higher price later.

No one can accurately predict bitcoin price movement. For the price to pull back to $1,170 in a short term it might not be possible though bitcoin price fluctuate. Currently bitcoin is price $1286 and has established strong resistance at $1200! Except something fundamentally happens price might not pull back to 1,185 that you sold.

Best time to sell your bitcoin is at the peak price after instant surge like 50$+ increase within 24 hour and wait for some correction which is quite natural but don't expect correction of over 10$-20$ after such surge. If you sell your bitcoin and wait overnight for price to come down than you may actually loss rather than making any profit with daily price swing.

Bitcoins price will rise more in a few days or weeks and at some point it will go downm. It might be back to a flat $1k so just keep

watching the market for opportunities. I won't buy and sell on that amount because their interval is still low for me. In the past

after the price rises greatly it will decrease horribly and I'm waiting for that.

So if you can ask in simple words, you wanna know the right time to buy/sell Bitcoins. While simplest answer to this question is - Never.
You can't predict the bull, sometimes it grows strong sometime collaspe. You can see in past we were talking in $500-600 till last year, today you are lamenting for $1185 and maybe it is possible that we see $5000 in future. No surprise!

With I'm planning to do, I wanted to sell before the ETF approval and will buy again when the result is disapproved. It's hard to expect that the ETF will be approved.

Because many are saying that only small percentage that it will be approved.

That's pure gambling and on top of that you're basing it on the worthless opinion of others who know nothing.

Have a flutter by all means but I hope you're not betting the farm on it.

You can never predict what is going to happen in the future with bitcoins. The prices might increase as well as decrease no-one knows. But it is pretty sure that one day the price of bitcoin will be a lot like you can buy bitcoins now and then after 4 or 5 years of you go to sell whatever you have bought then no doubt you will be rich as compared to now.

Just wait, but the final decision on 11 march. If it gets another delay and thanks for yourself to sell your bitcoin on that price. The bullish trend will be turning into the bullish trap and red candle will be coming asap, but it will never reach below $1000.

Rate will not get to that low now. It'll be disastrous if that happened because lots of people are eyeing on $1300. It needs some time to get stable. The bullish market trend should get less before turning to a gradually increasing one.

With this type of move and you did already as long as you did gain some profit from it, don't regret it. That's what I' doing to relieve when I'm feeling regret.

I'm not that an expert but I would say that just go with the flow. If you will wait for some more time and hopes for the price to go down, I guess you'll just wasting your time. The price of bitcoin may be down again for sometime but it's not that very far as we are expecting. Maybe you should buy somehow right now and just keep on holding.

No one can predict what will happen because we are not fortune teller. It is all about guts and good analytical because if you are a true trader and you know how to read charts then you can find some patterns there or you can conclude a conclusion for the price if you will sell or just wait for another dump or pump. It is always depend on you and not other's people decision because you are the one who is in charge of your bitcoin and you just need to be smart in doing decision by reading some articles or news about the bitcoin whether it will continue the trend or not.

No one knows anything. Anyone who does claim to know something needs slapping upside the head or is trying to sell you something.

The seeds are there for further insane rises and also a brutal fall. You could look into spreading your buys over a period of time and hope it evens out.

I think if there's a fall soon it won't be to any lower than 800-900USD, so that would be the ideal time to buy.

A lot of this rise is speculation about the ETF, so if it's approved Bitcoin could be headed way up and it might even be realistic to think Bitcoin will get a lot of media attention soon since it's surpassed the ATH and if it surpasses the price of gold it could get even more media attention.

If you want to be safe, I wouldn't buy now, because there are always loads of people who buy at the peak and it's unlikely that Bitcoin will just keep rising unless it really goes somewhere with block size issues etc - and it doesn't seem like everyone can agree on anything.

But if you want to take a chance, and you're betting with small amounts of money, it would be a good idea because at some point Bitcoin will definitely rise higher than this and I don't think there are any more total brutal falls to come.

Even an expert can't tell you the exact thing to do since their fearless analyzation is just a reference of what should they do. Now because you have been wrecked up for selling early then want to try again another risk by putting again some money to the current price? We all don't know what will happen to the price behaviour here and then, so if you think that the bitcoin price will continously to go uptrend then buy at the current rate. In case of a loss, then up to you if you will minimize the loss or damn hold since and act as a long term holder.

Your's to decide.

I think there are no options for a brutal fall anymore. Bitcoin has demonstrated that it can recover from the most brutal crash ever (from $1250 to like 100$), then rise to new all time highs.

This is now into the global psychology, which means, the resistance will now be way closer to the current price, which means, no way big crashes will happen, and if they happen they will get bought back quickly by people that isn't in the game already.

That is 'this time it's different' paraphrased. And we all should know what happens when that's wheeled out.

At this very moment the only thing that's different in Bitcoinland compared to its utter doldrums is excitement. There aren't any more fundamentals right now. If ETF stuff happens then that's a different matter.

China's demise is probably the biggest obstacle that's been removed but anyone who thinks utter triumph is in the bag is too caught up in the moment.
