Another question - is there a way to split one dag to pieces?

The answer is no. You need to have at least 2GB card to do the Ethereum mining. It is better to have 4GB cards.

3GB cards will proably be fine for the remaining PoW lifetime of ETH - but that's older cards for the most part, I think the only current 3GB offering is one version of the "GTX 1060" that's also reduced core count and NOT a good miner card overall.

3GB cards might get outdated eventually on some of the ETH alternate coin(s) like ETC if those stick with PoW.

So where to find exact numbers for DAG-using coins? May be some tool or web-site...

The DAG file grow about 600 MB per year, it stated from 1 GB. So for the 3GB card, it should be OK for 2 more years.

is that right that for example EXP was founded even 1 year ago 09/13/15  (genesis block)
now we have 371000 block so in 1 year we came through 12 DAG changes

600 mb / 12 = 50 mb increase in one change (30 000 blocks)? = now EXP DAG size is 1600 and after next 10000 blocks will be 1650 mb...

So 2mb card will stay up-to-date for more 7 changes/epochs = 6 month with same growth rate
and 3mb card will only be useful for 18 month max

Same grow for ETH, SHIFT, KRYPTON and all forks?

Correct me if I'm mistaken

My saying of the The DAG file grow about 600 MB per year is for the Ethereum. The EXP has different block time.

Hi!

How many megabytes will DAG increase from 1 Gb after 30 000 blocks? Huh

Can someone explane for newbie please:
block 1 = 1024 mb dag size
block 30001 = 1xxx? mb dag size
block 60001 = 1nnn? mb dag size

thinking of used 2gb cards for first testing rig like r9 270x they are way cheaper and DAG size is very sufficent for their lifetime and ROI calculation

Thanks in advance!

Good until next Febrary 2017

Do you know the size of the dag file of shift or expanse?

You can calculate it yourself. It will increase every 30,000 blocks. It will start from 1GB. You can find their block hieight.

Hello! Thank you very much for your replies!

Just for an historical perspective, all DAG were always requireing a 2Gbs card and will soon grow to need a 3Gbs? Furthermore the hashing speed is very dependent on the bus size?
If i'm right, DAG file size change every 5 days for ETH.
And some cards suffer more with this growth especially old cards.
For exemple, my 7970 are loosing hash at every DAG change

But it seems that R9 280X ou R9380X that are just evolution of the 7970 suffer less.
And new cards like R9 390 or Fury / Nano are not impacted with the DAG file change.

My oldest card doing 20 Mh/s in november 2015, now it's 17Mh/s
In this time, my full rig of 5 cards was hashing @98Mh/s, now it's 93Mh/s (Some cards lose less hash, I have different model Sapphire, HIS, MSI ... and different RAM on them)
I guess that in 6 month, I'll hash something like 90/88 Mh/s with my old generation cards

But they have already ROI multiple times and was buy used at low price (~130-140$/card), so it is a good thing Smiley
If you could buy a cheap 7950 or 7970 3GB for your gaming desktop, It not a bad idea.
Or invest in cheap R9 290/390 when next gen GPU will be out in Q3 2016

Is there any ethashcoin to mine with a 1gb card? EXP, SHIFT, others? I don't know where to find the DAG size of different coins. Thx in advance.
