Most companies like that are legit but it's best to go there and see the shop when you decide to deliver. Many companies publish pictures and videos of their workspace online.
Check out these guys: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SzIS_q4yS88 100% legit company with a great reviews.

If you see someone working out of a something that looks like a fastfood stand or a doughnut shop watch out. There are many people who can do simple recovery cheap using software. Not many with a lab that can swap memory modules and physically rebuild a disk.

I don't think they allow me to stay there during the work. However this is not my field of expertise so I can't be sure they are not taking a copy of my data Sad

I have personally seen that some of my local services offer the option that a customer may be present during data recovery, and also more recently a privacy agreement has been offered as additional data protection in accordance with the GDPR.

Sve operacije mogu biti obavljene i u nazočnosti korisnika (posebna najava, dogovor i cijene).

All operations can be performed in the presence of the user (special announcement, agreement and prices)

I think everything can be arranged, even your presence during data recovery - but it's an extra service and makes the already expensive job more expensive. It may be important to find a service that has a really good reputation, and they always try to keep it that way.

I always ask for a short deadline in a situation like that and only chooses a shop that is surely busy. In most cases, these technicians won't have enough time to deal with those "file secrets" as long as they already fixed the Drive and ready to be boot up. They have lots of works on the table so they need to precious their time. For example, I brought my drive in the morning, I will request that at least in the late afternoon it should be fixed. No way I will leave it to the store overnight but I also don't mind as these techs aren't allowed to bring their work on home as that was part of the store's policy. And I always watch them do it as much as possible.

Just choose a shop that is popular there and does have a good approval rating. Also, I suggest learning how to recover files. I'm not hiring a service now for this recovery stuff thing as I already know how to recover lost files in a drive. It's just that when it comes to hardware issues (like undetected etc.), that's out of my expertise so that's the only time I will seek help for a technician.

I can share with you my recovery program if you want. Proven and tested. Just need to dig my precious external once I got home.

I occasionally notice things in the local press about computer repairers taking massive advantage of the data they have access to.

It's entirely down to who you choose. It might be a company made up of techno monks who've been doing it since birth or it might be some freak who got out jail yesterday and will store his child porn on your disk for a bit.

If I were in the market for this I'd be looking for a place with miles of track record, multiple branches and government and big business contracts, but they're the ones who are going to cost the big bucks others have mentioned.

Some random computer repairer? I wouldn't do it if there was any risk.

I am not referring to online service, but professional service that should recover data from damaged hard disk.
What do you think about the various recovery center for damaged hard disk / ssd?
They can be trustable? They adopt in a certain way a protection for data retrieved (that can be accessed only by legit proprietary?)
Thanks for your opinion / suggestions

If this one doesnt talk about busted or physical damaged hard disk then it can really be recovered and as mentioned above where these kind of services it somewhat expensive at least here in my country.
I do know the feels when you do handle out these kind of things where you do really think of that possibility that they can be copied nor accessed by those people whom do repair it.
If youre arent allowed to look while they do work then you wont have any choice. Are those files encrypted? since you do talk about having some keys inside it but doesnt worth that much in coins value.
This is a hard decision though but it all matters on how you do trust up that guy or would simply accept the risk or just simply pass.

I don't suggest you to try this with anybody, and if necessary, try to find someone from your local who can help. You have no garantes that your info will be safe.
I had an experience in the past when i was in the college earning from preparing damaged computers, especially in recovering data from damaged/formated hard disks. If you still have access to the hard disk, then it's easy to use a recovery software available in the net, you can do it by yoursef with the help of many useful guides. But if the hard disk is physically damaged, then your chances are little to none because the optic reader can't be prepared in most cases. In few cases, it can be repared but it will work just once so you can recover your files, too risky.
If you can describe the damage, i may help you about to do exactly.
First thing to do is you have to remove the hard disk from the laptop and to connect it to another computer (usb connector with laptop or a sata connector with desktop). Easy to do it. If the computer can recognise it, then you are safe.

Everyone, correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know recovery services can be expensive as hell. Your files might not be worth the payment. But then again, it will probably depend on how sort of "damaged" the SSD is.

I was thinking if there is a solution (like a protection standards) to get data "protected-not opened" and the operator can't  look/make a copy.
If it could be possible?
Idk, probably be there while they work on your device? That's the only easy sure-fire solution I could think of.

Thanks, I am not worried about the amount to be spend, this is not the issue... Smiley and isn't really too much...

I had an experience in the past which is mechanical hardrive not the new era SSD so I am not sure SSD can be recovered.Once my hard drive was corrupted and it doesn't get boot so one of my friend suggested a professional to recover the data in it and they asked me nearly $3000 and the status of my hard drive is corrupted not any physical damage,I thought its just too expensive and I left that out.

So yes its possible but really depends on the status of your hard drive.

I mean, it will completely depend on the service provider. It would be pretty difficult to make a 'yes' or 'no' answer as there are thousands and thousands of recovery services lol.

Of course though, whatever they successfully recover, they will of course have access to probably unless it's encrypted.

Will I use such a service? Completely depends what files I want recovered. If it just was some old family pictures, then probably as they won't get anything for seeing the family pictures anyway.

What kind of files do you need to be recovered anyway?

an entire ssd of a Macbook air Sad
There are some books, etcetc... and there are few private keys of several coins (not so much but even some bucks).
My laptop was password -protected. I am totally naive about this kind of stuff. Maybe in this case they can take the file but can't access?
(no private keys are not bip-38 encrypted).
