The more the banned accounts, the more the ban appeal threads...
The more difficult it is to rank up for some, the more the veiled merit begging thread

The sad one is meta is the section that has to take it all in

We're doing pretty well though

In this moment of calm on the cryptomarket and on the forum, there is no much more to talk about and people spend their time to busting accounts.
Since it seems, we have more and more banned accounts for plagiarism, more and more thread about complaining will be raised here on the meta section.

Might be wondering if it really is possible to have it as a normal discussion here in the community.
It all depends on your definition of what a normal discussion is,this is a community/forum that is divided into various sections and every section has its particular purpose(why it was created)

The BD section is for Bitcoin matters
AD section for Altcoin matters
B&H section is to help the newbies get up to scratch
And so on and so forth.......

While here is meta we discuss issues related to the forum, such as merits, ban appeal etc
And as the rules states, rule number 25 to be precise a banned account is only allowed to make a thread here is meta about his/her ban, any thread outside meta invariably leads to another ban..

So my point is simple if the ban appeal threads/merit discussions were to be held in BD or AD or any other section other than meta then it is not a normal discussion(let me borrow your words)
But if they are made in here then it is totally/absolutely normal..

We've been getting much of it lately which shows our Mods are cracking down on cheaters
Then the merit issue most times is just about noobs who haven't ranked up whining up in our ears(give it's some time,it will die down)

Whah??  I have no clue as to how this relates to this thread, and those quotation marks you used are baffling to me.

Seems like in the past week, ban appeal threads have exploded in number and although I find them to be annoying (but sometimes amusing), I'm very glad mods are banning so many members.  It'd be a much worse situation if the plagiarists and assorted rule-breakers got away with stealing content and everything else they did to earn a ban.

But no, I'm pretty sure Meta couldn't go a week without a new appeal thread or one about merits.  That's what Meta has become lately.  It's interesting OP referenced Meta's pre-merit history.  I don't think I've looked through old Meta posts from the early days of the forum, and I honestly don't remember what it was like when I registered here in 2015.  Think I'll have to spend some time going back and reading the earliest posts--thanks for giving me the inspiration to do so, OP.

As regards your poll no, I don't think we can go a week without a merit discussion or a ban appeal.
There has been an increase in banned and nuked accounts recently, hence the increase in appeal threads.

And I personally have no problem with that as banned members ignorantly expose their alts which some have (or would have) used to post outside meta and they can be banned as well.

And as for merit posts, the best way to discourage them is to ignore such posts, as those members would be discouraged from making such posts if it doesn't get attention.
But that is unlikely to happen as most newbies would still give the same repetitive advise to such posts maybe in an attempt to get attention themselves.

(P.S.: Is it me or Self Moderation in this board wasn't allowed in the first place?)
Some section/boards are excluded from creating self moderated thread so that no one can manipulate here. Also, tagged scammers aren't allowed to create self moderated threads.
The excluded sections are Meta (except for this topic), Scam Accusations, Important Announcements, and Auctions.

Possible when we no longer have bounties and signature in our forum, because everyday new user coming and complaining about merit system and when the account got banned for plagiarism they are coming here for apologize everyday.

And other reason why meta become spam fest is people knows that meta is the place where more merits were circulated so they are coming here and creating topics to get a merits to become junior member.

As I was looking to some posts on some Boards to kill time, I came up on this thing.
Might be wondering if it really is possible to have it as a normal discussion here in the community.
I really much like to experience the time before Merit was introduced (way back 2012-2015)
