heh, i've seen it live...funtime  Grin
iirc it was possible via avatar pic upload function.

coming from graphic background i thought inverting/changing colours via code wouldn't be such a big problem.
but as theymos described it i suppose it could increase risk for hacks in the future.

Bright themes and white background against black text always bother me, don't ask me why, but I find colour and darkness help a lot, they also actually help a lot when I look at code or other data, damn left brain thinkers and their plain themes >_<

This would be useful (along with other themes). The blue one does get old.

It does look dated, but I don't really mind it. A dark theme could be much better though.

I don't care  Smiley but out of simple curiosity it would be fun to see this forum in any shape other than this old-fashioned one. I doubt they will do it though -people asking for avatars back for almost 3 months now- lol.

I previously said that I'd re-enable SMF themes, but now I'm thinking that this would be an awful pain. SMF themes work by duplicating a ton of code, which is difficult to maintain.

Has anyone tried writing a custom stylesheet for the forum? Is it possible to implement a dark theme that way? (How can I help?) If someone writes a good one, I'll figure out a way to let other people use it without installing any software.

thanks for your fast response, theymos.
Unfortunately I'm not familiar with coding so i have no clue how difficult implementation would be
and can't help in any way but offering a tip for anybody who has the time and feels like it.

...Unless you're using a smartphone or laptop outside in overly sunny conditions. White backgrounds have vast advantages in high ambient light.

Or at night, as I usually do. Reading about my favorite topic before I go to sleep is very relaxing  Cheesy

Technically white on black is easier to read than black on white.

yea, i have a two display setup and on the second screen my browser always glows like a lightbulb.
i just recognized the contrast while working with photoshop and 3D software on first screen.
some darker grey tones with white letters would be really nice.

edit:

yes, it always depends where you are and what device you use.
that's why a selection of several themes would be nice.

I'm hanging around in this forum for a year now and after reading threads for several hours my eyes often got quite fatigue.
(Nearly every software I work with has dark layouts and it's much better for the eyes)

So here's my question to the forum staff:

How big is the effort to implement a darker theme to bitcointalk or are the layout options disabled on purpose?

(I added the poll to see if more users would like to have optional themes)

Thanks for your votes  Smiley
