Well it is accepted in a few places. Compared to most altcoins this is good I guess, since they are accepted like literally nowhere.
Most and majority of the acceptance (99% probably) has Bitcoin. Darkcoin is working on other things at the moment, not adoption.

My question is that DRK being anonymous, it would seem a good choice for buying and selling merchandise on the internet. Especially for people who care about privacy. Is this the case? Which of these anon altcoins has the highest volume being attributed to real purchases and not just speculation?

The first step would be to see which of the alternative auction sites are actually using the coin...

Slowly there seems to be more merchant adoption. It's still so young though. Evan (the developer) just said he had a eureka moment to create instance transactions. I think when it finally becomes open sourced and people start seeing the potential in it, more merchants will sell products and services for it.
