after Luke 'the nuke' Littler had to pay a lesson in last year's final, yesterday was the day and the 17-yo was crowned the youngest world champion in darts history.
with a total of 12 180s, an average of 102.73 and a double rate of 56%, he gave MvG no chance
i think he will dominate the darts world for the next few years

Wasn't able to see the match but from everything I read, Littler dominated the final and it was one-sided. This kid is just phenomenal and as you say, he will dominate the next couple of years. Two years ago, almost nobody has heard of Littler, nowadays he is the next superstar in Darts as he is also approachable and just fun to watch.

Congrats to Luke Littler with becoming World Champion at age of 17. Guys, try to remember what you were doing being 17 years old Cheesy? Ok, he was favorite tonight, but I didn't expected such one sided match. And Littler didn't even played phenomenal match - yeah, he was good, but he can do better. It's more about how bad van Gerwen was tonight. He wasn't same like he played all tournament long. Yeah, MVG didn't gave up, but when you lose first sets 4:0, it's too late to make a comeback against player like Littler.

Yeah, this was pure domination. I wonder what we can expect from this kid. Like I said before, this isn't even his final stage. He has so much time to improve his game because he is so young. If he stays focussed on the sport and doesn't drift away because of his stardom the sky is the limit for him. Guys play into their 50s sometimes, so has a solid 30 years or more ahead of him if he wants to. A lot of time to claim a title like GOAT or something.

If all goes according to plan, we could have a dream final of Van Gerwen vs Littler. My money would be on Littler but you can never rule out Van Gerwen. There were periods (some years ago) that Van Gerwen was simply unbeatable and he would win tournament after tournament.
And as expected, we have Littler vs van Gerwen in the final. Both didn't faced much competition in the semifinals which were prety much one sided action.  Well, at least People's Champion Bunting managed to win one set and extend action at Ally Pally a bit.
It should be epic final - lot of great words were already said about Littler, not going to repeat. But MVG is looking like in his prime time few years ago when he dominated completely. I think I already said it some time ago - I see Littler as only one who can stop him

I will try to see the match of Littler vs Van Gerwen as it could be a great match or it could be completely one sided. Littler is the favorite to win the title and my money is on him. He got experience from last year also and already beat Van Gerwen quite recently.

Thanks for the update, and I will still stick to my prediction of Van Gerwen winning this tournament but it could be very close. Unlike their wins in the semis with a complete domination with a 6-1 victory.

However, Van Gerwen here is a huge underdog against Littler. But this match is so intriguing on how Van Gerwen performed against the kid sensation.

And if by chance Littler win here, he will shatter the record of Van Gerwen as the youngest to win at 17 years old.

Remaining 2 games in evening session - Bunting - Wright and Littler - Aspinall. Would love to see Wright - Littler semifinal.

the results of the remaining two games were as follows last night:
Stephen 'the bullet' Bunting defeated Peter 'snakebite' Wright with 5:-2 and in the second match 17-yo youngster Luke Littler prevailed 5-2 over Nathan Aspinall as well

the semi-finals will look like this:
Chris Dobey - Michael van Gerwen
Stephen Bunting - Luke Littler

New Year delivered us some epic 1/4 finals. Michael van Gerven beats Callan Rydz 5:3. It was top level match, high averages, over 30 180s, MVG being so close from making 9 darter. Rydz got a bit unlucky to face MVG because playing like he did today he would beat anyone. But today it was just prime Time van Gerven who dominated few years.
Chris Dobey eliminates Gerwyn Price, but damn, he almost choked when he missed 5 match darts. But that didn't helped for Price and Dobey still managed to win game.

Darts is my favorite sport! I play it at my dacha, in the office, in my apartment, basically, wherever I can. I am quite good at throwing darts, in particular, I can throw darts with my right hand, my left hand, and even with both hands at the same time (although, of course, I am far from being a champion in this sport).

It never occurred to me that this amateur pastime would eventually become such a popular sport. That is why I missed the start of this legendary darts tournament in December 2024.

In my opinion, this is an exciting competition and I will be very interested in starting to place bets on this event next year (in December 2025).

I have already made a corresponding reminder in my electronic calendar. In the meantime, I will try to collect as much information as possible about this tournament and its participants.

the pairings for the quarterfinals are now set and look like this... the games will be played on 01 january

Chris Dobey - Gerwyn Price
Michael van Gerwen - Callan Rydz
Peter Wright - Stephen Bunting
Luke Littler - Nathan Aspinall

And this are the odds so far:

The Chris Dobey vs Gerwyn Price match though is almost 50/50, so it's going to be very hard to bet on it.

Who's your favorite though to win here? For me I will go with van Gerwen. Best of luck for those who will put some money in this tournament.

This is a great sport and in my opinion it is one of those underrated sports that every sports betting fan should learn. Besides the fact that you can have a great time just watching a sporting event, you can also make money here. True, not all bookmakers have lines on darts. And not even all prediction platforms like Polimarket bet on it. However, this sport has a great future. I will try to devote more time to darts. The fact that this tournament starts in December and covers the New Year holidays around the world allows it to gather more interested viewers.

Plenty of big names still in the field even though a lot a favorites busted out in the previous rounds already. Everybody will look at the Littler match obviously. In the round of the last 16 he had some trouble so this match is not a given as well. Too bad that these games are all quite late in my time zone, especially the last ones. Maybe I have to watch the highlights only but it's always so hard not to get the result spoiled in advance.  Cry

Mainly looking forward to Littler vs Aspinall, that could be a good match! Surprising that Wright won against Humphries last round; he played not good at all this year and suddingly he is back and throws phenomenal and he is the favorite against Bunting.

Nebrida's next match,

https://www.sofascore.com/team/darts/nebrida-paolo/458523

And again, he is a huge underdog, in his match against De Graaf here, 3:1

In his previous upset win,

Against Williams, 4:1 underdog (round 1)

Against Smith, 7:1 underdog ( round of 64)

So it's the question whether the Filipino can keep up with his giant killing spree in this tournament.

It was the end of our very own, Paolo Nebrida in this tournament as his giant killing has come to an end as he lost to De Graaf.

De Graaf now will face Van Gerwen, Michael.

Van Gerwen is Group G, and rank second behind Anderson.

I have no interest in darts whatsoever but for some strange reason, every Christmas I am following the World Darts Championships, haha. I wonder why that is. Is it the lack of other sporting events or just the insane atmosphere sometimes at Ally Pally?
What the 17 year old Littler guy is toing (yet again) is beyond insane. I mean honestly, this guy is 17. He has like 30-40 years of darts ahead of him. After his career is all said and done nobody will remember Phil Taylor or the other legendary guys that people sing songs about. It will only be "There's only ooooooone Luke Littler!" .  Grin

Or at least until the next wonder child is entering the scene.

Littler is a blessing for the sport, he enjoys it and it is always entertaining to watch him play in contrary to some other players. Taylor is still the GOAT in darts with 16 world titles and this will be hard to beat, even for Littler.

True that, ti's gonna be tough for anybody to even get close to the amount of titles that Taylor won. Still, considering how young Littler is there is a chance if he keeps this up. And I mean, he can still improve, A LOT, since he is so young still. I doubt he is in his prime already, far from that! And obviously Darts is a sport that you can play even at a higher age. Prime would be like in their 30s I would say.
Anyway, fresh blood is always great for the sport of course. Nobody wants to see the same guys competing year after year.

That's something what I didn't expected to see, but I'm very happy to see such performance by Wright, he is one of my favorite players.
Also, we were very close from another 9 darter today - de Graaf had chance to win whole match by throwing 9 darter, but he didn't managed to do it. Anyway, he still won game against Nebrida.

we now have the second 9-darter in this tournament! Cool
in this afternoon's session, this was achieved by Damon Heta from australia in a duel against Luke Woodhouse from england.
nevertheless, the australian lost against the englishman in the end with 3-4

https://x.com/OfficialPDC/status/1872632533923295673

In recent years the 9 darter has become a common occurrence I feel. I remember when it was super special to see a televised 9 darter and now it happens in pretty much every big tournament so it seems.
Just shows how far this sport has come. I mean the averages go through the roof sometimes and the number of 180s also increases a lot over the years. Even though you would think the game hasn't changed, it's still just a board and some darts but the numbers tell a different story, I wonder why that is.

Probably both things is related. I think big part of people who watch World Championship don't follow Darts all season long, but they get very excited about World Championship. It's about me and some my friends. There is such great vibe at Ally Pally.

There's a lot of dart tournament in our country mate, but usually it's on the "inter-baranggay" level. However, some of those players didn't go pro in our country, as obviously there is no money in this sports, sad to say.

But it could change as we have seen a lot of Filipinos in world tours already and carving their name in the Europe tour. So I wouldn't be surprised if we can get a least a champion in the next 5 years as keep improving.

Michael van Gerwen next match is against Brendan Dolan, but obviously he is a huge favorite.
And that's the problem since we in our country is mostly invested in sports like Basketball, Volleyball, Boxing, and just recently Gymnastics since we got an Olympic Gold Medal. Darts isn't getting that much attention nationwide that's why we aren't seeing tournaments in our country. It's only on inter-barangay level only, but that's it.

Maybe the only way for other Filipinos to know this sport is when somebody will win a world championship like what happen with Gymnastics and will be on the media for a long time. Besides that, there's no way that Darts will be that popular in our country. Let's see how our fellow Filipinos perform especially Paolo Nebrida who is making upset over upset.

Anyway, if I may ask, where are you watching these tournaments (if you're watching it), and what time?

Today we had plenty of upsets, especially in evening session. Earlier today Madars Razma won against 25th ranked van Duijvenbode. Then Ross Smith got eliminated by Paolo Nebrida in 3 straight sets. That's already second big upset in tournament made by guy from Philippines, in previous round he eliminated Jim Williams.
Another big name - Gary Anderson also lost in 3 sets to Jeffrey de Graaf from Sweden. From favorites only Van den Bergh ddidn't had any troubles.

Quite a lot of upsets indeed, biggest upset was the loss of Gary Anderson who is a 2 times world champion and he played a couple of decents tournaments lately also.

And this guy is just 17 years old. If he will continue what he is doing now, he can become goat of darts.

That is what I also think. He came a little bit out of now where last year but is already a millionaire after 1 year of darts  Grin.

Watched the last leg of the Littler game yesterday and he made another record by having the highest set average of about 140. He is my number 1 favorite to win the title.

I knew it, giant killer Nebrida is still on the tournament, it's one of the biggest so far, and the way he did it, defeating Ross Smith 3-0. So he is the first Asian to advance to the last 32 and he really put the flag of the Philippines and it could be a sign that the Filipino are going to improved and there is potential for them.

So let's see how far Nebrida and I'm hoping he can go the quarterfinals as this is really huge for Filipino dart fans.

The first time I watched darts was at early 2024, and the only Filipino Darts that I saw was a person named Christian Perez.
I can't find the video on YouTube unfortunately, but he's became popular (at least for me) when he shouted at his opponent after shouting at him when he got a point. Cheesy I mean for me, it's just funny to have that kind of revenge.

Anyway, like you said, darts isn't that popular in our country, and it hasn't been given that much attention as well. Like you, I also don't know why darts isn't being focused as well. Maybe because it isn't an Olympic Sport currently. Nevertheless, I'm enjoying watching darts game ever since I started watching it a few months ago. Those nine-darters and the crowd cheering whenever they had a 180. Cheesy

In Belgium the sport has become massive popular thanks to the likes of Huybrechts and Van Den Bergh, a lot of people nowadays play it in bars hoping to also break through in the game as you a lot of money can be earned when you are really good. Watched the last leg of the Littler game yesterday and he made another record by having the highest set average of about 140. He is my number 1 favorite to win the title.

With this upcoming competition, I am wondering if there will be new memes that will arise from this event.  Grin Remember the Paris Olympics - shooters like Yusuf Dikec (Turkey) and Kim Yeji (South Korea). So now, we are awaiting from this sports if there will be viral angles that audience can capture.. Darts is not a very popular sports. So who knows, one viral meme from this event can gain popularity from the world audience.

Fans are now getting unforgettable moments because most are carrying their smartphones and one snapshot can go viral over social media platforms.

Maybe because it isn't an Olympic Sport currently. Nevertheless, I'm enjoying watching darts game ever since I started watching it a few months ago. Those nine-darters and the crowd cheering whenever they had a 180. Cheesy

Michael Smith, the 2023 world champion and number two in the order of merit, was eliminated in the second round of the world championship. it was the seeded englishman's first match of the pdc wc - and also his last.
the outsider from holland, Kevon Doets, won 6:4 in the fifth set and celebrated one of the biggest successes of his career!
This match was the reason why I love darts. After 1st set it looked that Doets don't stand a chance against Smith, but rest of match was different story. 5 set with a tie-break was epic. It's enough to see what averages both players had. Huge disappointment for Smith and biggest career win for Doets.

I'm a Filipino and it's very unusual for us to see a Filipino in the world stage, so congrats to Paolo Nebrida.

But I will tell you that darts if very popular to Filipinos, but not sure why we don't want to concentrate on this sports as obviously we love boxing and basketball. And if you go around every streets, there is at least some local playing, 501 as we call it (not sure how is it call and then killers).
Darts is very affordable that everyone can play and you don't need huge stadium for, what makes this sport very popular. Next game for Nebrida against 19th ranked Ross Smith - can he make another upset. Will see on Sunday.
BTW, there isanother guy from Philippines - Sandro Eric Sosing, he had to play today, but he withdraw from tournament. No idea what happened.

That is true, and you know that we played darts in the streets till the wee hours in the morning?

And up to now and every summer here, we have competitions and the last time our team won was like pre-pandemic. But that was a long time ago and some of my mates haven't had practice but we have to get back again this year.

Too bad that Sosing has to withdraw. Nebrida upon checking is the top 3 player in the country, so there's no surprised that he has the experienced to pull such big upset. His next game is tomorrow so let's see if he continues his giant run in this tournament.

Ladies and gentleman, we have first 9-darter in this World Championship :
https://x.com/OfficialPDC/status/1869487579646574598
Congratulations to Christian Kist for making it and also earning nice £60k bonus. His match with Razma is still in play, it's very close.
We have huge upset, not ranked guy from Philippines beats 46th Jim Williams.

9 darter wasn't enough for Kist to win game, Razma goes to the next round.

Watched yesterday how Gerwyn Price won his game against Barry in very dominant way. And he didn't even played perfectly, but his opponent failed to use opportunities that Price gave him.
Unfortunately my countrymen Labanauskas got eliminated already by Ryan Joyce. Expected, but pity as there was chances to fight. But when you lose your own throws, it's difficult to think about win. Now I can only remember good times few years ago when Labanauskas reached 1/4 final and was close from beating van Gerven...
Now waiting to see Peter Wright playing. Put some money on his win tonight, not bad odds.

The first (big) surprise is there with De Decker that lost his match against Woodhouse. De Decker was in good form the last couple of months but unrecognizable this afternoon so he is already out. Also Huybrechts is already out so not a good start for the Belgium dart players.

Interesting championship tournament. Who would have thought that a regular recreational game would be a competitive sport. I have set a notification for the 15th when the game begins. Although I will not be placing any bets since it is my first time watching the game, I'll just follow up for next time. I don't know how many times the championship holds in a year, these are the types of things I'll like to know of before choosing to make bets.
World Championship is held every year in December, while other tournaments like Masters, Premier League is played all year long, similar like in tennis.
Tune it in, I'm sure you will like. While I wish one day to visit World Championship as spectator. There such great atmosphere and vibe, people have great time watching it with some cold beer and snacks Smiley.

I always like to watch it on TV and would also like to see it live as it is just fun. Everybody is mainly singing, shouting, dancing, drinking beers and just having a good time. will be an interesting tournament and it will be interesting to see how far Mike De Decker can get as he really broke through this year; Littler and Humphries are the big favorites for the title.

It's that wonderful time of year - Christmas is approaching and it means that's time for main event of darts season.
Can't say that I followed darts very closely throughout the season, but seems that Littler and Humphries is main favorites, bookmakers don't give much chances for olderb generation like Van Gerven, Smith, Price and etc, all of them give above 10 odds.
It's amazing how Littler out of nowhere become one of best darts player in world just in one year.

from december 15, 2024, the darts will be flying again at alexandra palace in london as the world darts championship gets underway.
from this day, the best darts players in the world, led by reigning world champion Luke Humphries, will duel for the sid waddel trophy and thrill the entire darts world until the final on january 3, 2025.
the favorites here are the reigning world champion and first in the order of meriot Luke Humphries. thanks to victories in the world cup of darts and world matchplay, the 29-year-old has to be defeated on his way to the title - just like his opponent in the final at the time, Luke Littler. the 17-yo wonder child has already won two major tournaments this year, the premier league and the world series of darts.

former world champions Michael van Gerwen, Rob Cross and Michael Smith are also worth keeping an eye on.
