If I threw in BTC0.0001 for every transaction I made in my entire Bitcoin history, I'd be broke by now.
I'm a dust collector. No comment.

I have quite a few addresses, you know. Maybe over 100? Tongue
And anyway, I may have received that much, but it's because I used to (stupidly) make a lot of large transactions to consolidate my dust.
And even though that total received figure is high, compare it with the final balance. The final balance is less than half a percent of the total received Cheesy

How can one make a "free" transaction? I tried with electrum, doesn't work.

Now I am kinda confused Tongue
I've had no-fee transactions under 1000 bytes take more than 30 hours to confirm. However, I just made another no-fee transaction that was 2057 bytes, and it confirmed in 3 minutes Tongue
TXID is 2d3d0b3b39480afe1eba50b63047f980c0c31e116e203eab248b86db510105dc if anybody is interested.
Anybody care to explain why?
the transaction had a higher priority.

...or you were lucky and a pool that likes free transactions Tongue

Ah. Why would that happen?
If I recall correctly, each peer's memory pool is cleared on exit. Therefore, as nodes go offline (system restart, daemon crash, etc.), the transaction gradually disappears from the network.

Or it could be because blockchain.info is bugged. I sent a 0 fee transaction (that normally required a fee) using the NFTF fork, and it got 95%+ propagation. After 5 minutes, it dropped to 1%. It still got confirmed in ~6 hours.

Ah, okay Smiley

And I as a miner HATE doing work for free. That's the gist of it.

Is it me, or has blockchain.info's node progressing tracking completely gone wacko?
One of my transactions went to 91% node progression. A few hours later, it's down to 1% Tongue
it probably got dropped from nodes' memory pool

Well, that's fine, but just know that free transactions are typically going to confirm slower than paid ones.

Meh.
I HATE paying fees. Especially cause I'm this poor Smiley
And anyway, I've done a ton of low priority transactions, with no fee, and they've been all much faster.
the minimum fee is 0.005 BTC. that's 50 cents. how can you not pay that fee?

No it's not.

I throw in .0001 usually and get quick confirmations.

most pools love fee's, not because it helps the miners but because the pool owners 'cut' is the fee and he then gives near on all of the 25btc to the workers.

i personally think mining pool owners should have their own miners working along side other miners for their 'cut' and then not be so greedy.

Fee's should not be something that is essential for transactions just yet. especially when they end up being more then a few penny's worth, instead people should be accepting the reward alone as their reward and only require fee's in a few years, when the rewards are super small.

There was no fee, so you're only chance is to get in by priority. You tried to spend an output which was only 2 days old and only 1BTC. Priority is calculated as age*amount, so there's going to be lots more transactions with higher priority which come before yours. So your only chance is to get lucky where a couple of quick blocks in a row flush out all the waiting transactions, or you have to wait for your inputs to get older so your priority increases sufficiently.

I'm going to guess it's because of

Fees: 0 BTC

Most miners allow a certain amount of free transactions per block (I think it's based on cumulative size), so you just have to wait until someone decides your tx is going to go into that space.  Also remember nobody has an obligation to mine your transaction at any speed for any price.  The higher the fee, the more likely they will do it quickly though.

I just had a 225 byte transaction take 1273 minutes to confirm. That's over 21 hours. For a 225 byte transaction.
