I can't believe that this is a thing now. Never in my mind would I have imagined that this kind of criminal activities could exist and would target an ICO team. I guess people are now getting more involved in cryptocurrency and they are seeing huge opportunities to extort money from ICOs because as we all know, ICOs tend to raise very large amount of money (in many forms such BTC, ETH, fiat). This will be very common in coming months and dev teams should prepare for this kind of attack if they are trying to create an ICO.  Undecided

All of services have come back to operating Smiley
It may not the end of the story though.
Just remember the golden rule — always, always make backups!

Correct, if they have given up because you didn't give in to their demands, maybe they are thinking of another. So expect a big one coming your way just in case. Secured website and get someone to monitor incoming traffic. And don't just hire someone, hire that is competent and has prior experience with this kind of attacks. This is the first time I heard that a ICO has been attack by DDoS though. But thanks for the reminding the country and I hope other ICO's have read this so that they can prevent this kind of attacks on them by having their website secured. A downtime means thousands of dollars lost from investors.

I think refusing to pay is the only option to help other ICO teams.
If every will refuse to pay ransom, there will be no interest to threaten.
Yes you are right, your site is already back online without paying any cents to the attacker. It is quite costlier to conduct DDOS attack for more than few minutes, looks like attacker have given up.

It does not cost much to do a DDOS attack for a longer time period, it's just that attackers get bored if you don't reply to them and stop or they see that there is no way to get money out of it and they stop the attack. There are various tools online now that can make DDOS'ing very easy to many kids out there that want to make a living out of DDOS'ing.

i've seen many ico get attacked with DDoS, really not much as an investor you can do besides helping the ico team by calming everyone down and telling them to be patient.  Hopefully the ico team has taken precaution already or ico may get delayed a bit.

That is exactly that our senior tech told me. Wink
If you have some expert in the field of network security and hosting than contact him and ask him to plan something strong against those possible DDOS attack.

If you don't pay them than they might have DDOS attack on your site for few hours than rather than wasting so much money and their resources on your site they will move on.

Yeah, i think it will be cheaper for us to make some adjustments than 2 BTC Smiley And it will be more expensive for them for attack, so they cant do it forever.

Some motherfuckers are doing a DDoS attack on us (sexservice.io ICO). Check the screenshot Smiley
We fucked them and our website is down.
We are working on it.

DDoS attack is a known thing, but we haven't heard about bastards who are threatening ICOs.
Share your thoughts if you had such an experience.

DDoS attack is a general thing to anything that's get popular. You should have prepared for them.
You should have at least started to prepare rather than replying to them.  Smiley
