I hope you understand that social medias like fb, twitter, vk and etc have deep seeds in it. And the news that fb plans to create it's own token or currency decreases opponents' chances. Also please can you explain me benefits of decentralyzed social media? In decentralyzed do you mean blockchain based social media?
Personally I can't see any dramatic or even slight benefit, would be glad if you tell me why do we need it because there may be others who thinks like me.
Of Course! I didn't know how much detail to post initially. hence the little detail.
People want to use Facebook, Twitter and the various other social media networks/platforms that are out there, they use these platforms for several reasons, such as staying connected to friends and family to keeping up-to-date with the news. These services are offered free to users, in exchange they analyse and track everything you do, post, message, like etc, this data is then fed into complex algorithms which workout what you may be interested in, which is then used to target you with relevant adverts.
The Cambridge Analytica scandal that arose last year, shun a light on this, opening user’s eyes to the fact that these huge corporations not only own all the data you upload but how easy it is to create a digital version of you which again is ultimately used/sold to businesses to target you with adverts.
What I’m trying to build is a social network that decentralises user’s data, this means that users can connect with their friends and family, very much like they do now with Facebook, but with one big difference, their data remains safe and untouched. Users can however, choose to monetise their data, if they don't mind certain bits of data to be seen or used by advertisers or are specifically interested in seeing adverts about 'laptops' for example, they are able to specify this option. I want to allow them to choose and enable their own adverts. As a reward for seeing ads they receive some of our own cryptocurrency every time an advertiser targets them. It's a win win for both parties. The user can monetise their data and see adverts that are actually more personal and relevant to them and advertisers gain access to users that have specified specific things that they are actually interested in.
So... a decentralised social media platform brings about many benefits, the biggest being, data control. What does this mean? It means that users data will be placed onto to our native blockchain, this proves that as a business we are being honest as we can't even see the data and restores faith in users as they know that their data is protected, safe and not abused. It also brings confidence to the user because if they choose to use the platform ad free, they know that they data is secure and not being looked at because their data is encrypted and locked.
Obviously decentralisation ins't the only USP, as i've got a few mental health, wellbeing, experiance sharing features that I'd also integrate into the app.
