Just wanted to let you all know I've edited the thread subject and OP to reflect that the channel is now registered and available for all who wish to join.

I use ZNC as an IRC bouncer, I can log in from any of my pcs to the same existing session and catch up on stuff I would usually miss when "logged out". Quassel is another popular one.

Absolutely, ZNC is a must for your irc experience.

I haven't used IRC since I was a pimple faced teenager wannabe hax0r.  Grin Ahhh.... good memories! I still remember the channel I used to hang out in, #happyhacker

I think this is a good idea. I would participate when possible, but my day job would not allow me to be there 24x7.

some of the Bitcoin channels are well worth being in Wink
Idling in #bitcoin-dev can give good insight into current status and future plans
most pools run an irc channel, good point of contact and support

for people like me that "never want to miss a thing" there are several solutions to stay connected to irc and access irc from several locations

not saying it is for everyone - works for me though Smiley

I would be interested in such a channel. I'd certainly idle there, and maybe answer questions when I can.

Channel is effectively defunct. #butterflylabs has become the de facto place for BFL related talk and support so I suggest you go there.

ORIGINAL POST:

I've now registered ##bflusers to all who wish to participate. Located on Freenode, this is intended for a support channel for BFL hardware owners, pre-order customers, etc. This is not an official channel, even though it may seem like it. This is why Freenode policy requires ## (must put both before bflusers in order to join). I think it would be good for us to have a place to talk, debate, and help each other as BFL's userbase, especially for the ASIC rollout in just over a month. This way we can pool our knowledge and get the most out of our significant investment. I'm not anticipating BFL's help, nor is it a channel to pander to them. If they provide help though I'm not going to refuse it though and I would appreciate it. Most of all, I want this to be a community for BFL hardware miners to get help and provide help to others in a symbiotic manner.

With all that said, I'll see you there!

EDIT: Clarified double # for unofficial channel.

ORIGINAL POST:

Hi all,

I'm considering registering an IRC channel on Freenode for BFL hardware owners such as myself to share information and support each other. I think it would be helpful for us to bounce ideas and troubleshoot of off one another. BFL's ASIC release is coming up in just over a month, so now is the time to get this ready to go. This would be unofficial although if BFL reps want to be present in there I don't see a problem with that at this moment. I would be the operator of the channel. But I won't have a ton of time on my hands so I may delegate moderation to others that I think would be trustworthy. I'm also not an expert on BFL technology by a long shot, so this isn't a channel for people to come and get support from me directly, it would be a community operation. All would be welcome in the channel unless they cause excessive problems (drama etc.). I have not decided what the channel name would be yet, although I do have one in mind.

Is there any demand or interest in this, or would I be wasting my/others time?
