If you mean merge mining with Namecoin, I didn't think that was especially profitable. Are there any other uses for an ASIC miner like this or an Avalon when they're no longer BTC-profitable?

If you mine and keep all coins and in 1 year you have 300 coins and that is worth $90,000. A very handsome return....
or you can save 300 coins you have now by not buying it, and they will still be worth the $90,000 later, and the entire year you have those 300 coins you can use them over the course of the year to try and make a better return [ day trading btc-e / bitstamp etc etc ] .
