UPDATE:

Hi,
I tried the method you shown below but the unlock button did not appear when I entered my private key. Do you what I did wrongly here?

Thanks.

Open the MEW extension and click "Add Wallet"

You'll be redirected to the MyEtherWallet-Website.

Select the "Private Key"-Checkbox, then enter your private-key and click "Unlock".

Next assign a "name" and a password (the password will be the password for your keystore-file) and add the wallet.

Now open the extension and click "My Wallets".

You'll be redirected to the MyEtherWallet-Website - click on the "View"-icon for your wallet

Enter your password and click "View Wallet Info".

Now just download your keystore-file Smiley

Let me know if there are any problems Smiley

I rarely use MEW, saving the keystore-file or private key on the computer is very unsafe. Moreover, managing many wallets with MEW is quite complicated

I think it is quite risky to submit your private key on other website to get the keystore.
Just use your metamask and import the wallet using private key you own.
Honestly, using private key or keystore everytime you login is not a good way to using your wallet.

This is a good insight and procedure
But for newbies please ensure you do not try this if you do not understand how it works

You can secure your MyEtherWallet the Normal way by protecting your private key

very helpful article, thank you. therefore, I stand guard by backing up my keystore file, between the PC and the external hard drive. so I'm calmer by having a back-up.
