If you can befriend these people, you can.

No social security number, no taxes, no government, no tv, no internet, no radio, only fishing, hunting, eating, reproducing and sleeping.

Here's someone trying to visit them, they're not greeted with love!

Officially, the island has been administered by India as part of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Union Territory since 1947.[16] However, because there has never been any treaty with the people of the island, nor any record of a physical occupation whereby the people of the island have conceded sovereignty, the island exists in a curious state of limbo under established international law and can be seen as a sovereign entity under Indian protection. It is, therefore, one of the de facto autonomous regions of India.

So are they like cave men?
I'll look at the youtube now....

Even living of the grid with zero human contact, you still need some kind of human-created form of entertainment and education, meaning you're still being affected by society, even if not vice versa.

You can imagine living only with your family or friends so you have human interaction but only with a small selected group

You could argue you are then in a small society, it makes me think of the movie The Beach..

Just transfer to another country. All governments are not the same. I hunt birds, wild chicken, wild animals, fish in the rivers and seas I do not need a license for that lol. Only big fishing company needs a license. I don't pay tax and I don't expect to get services my government in return.

i have the same thoughts. if i go out into the woods to live off the grid society wouldnt let this happen and id most  likely break laws some how. i believe that if we live inside of the USA we are not allowed to opt out of society and all of its bullshit. we just have to live.

This, people go on about if you don't like it move.. move where?

Sorry slave.. slavers don't just let their slaves go.

Some governments are not hurting their cows as much as others yet so sometimes it can be good to leave when your farmer tolerates that you do

If you can befriend these people, you can.

Governments want to control even the air we breath,is hard this days to be outside society,if you try to do that you will be seen like a freak .But there are some parts of world were the government, tax and civilization didn't rich yet ; look at the amazonian tribes,or the one from Africa .So if you don't want to leave in “a society” you can go there.

b-bu-but a tribe is a society too!

The closest thing you will come to is becoming a World Citizen and expatriating.

A world citizen? Is that a real thing?

I believe in voting with your feet; you can go to a freer society where the state desn't control the whole system that much

Create your own country like Sealand or the Principality of Hutt River. And you will the king in your own new kingdom.  Smiley
Wouldn't you like that?

I wouldn't do that. I would miss my job, my friends, my family and the sedentary life of the city.  Smiley

If WW3 comes to your city your "sedentary life" is going to change.
good luck.

So true although I wonder will they nuke the mountain ranges or is it safer to stay in the city during WWIII

Or perhaps live in the ocean on a nice boat until it gets found lol.

(Opt out of society on a boat in International Waters lol)

I thought opting out of society was meant literally so I pictured someone becoming a hermit of sorts.  Maybe I misunderstood either way maybe you could go to the rainforest, jungles or desert and start fresh there some place that is very hard to survive unless you have the knowledge to do so...  That way you can pretty much be assured you will be left alone.

Doing a retreat could be an effective way to opt out of society, a retreat in Tibe.t for exemple

If you change your nationality you basically opt out of a country for an other one and you can just forget your old life if you didn't do something illegal before you left

opting out of society doesn't mean opting out of any possible contact with familly and friends, it's just that you don't follow everything and every trend that is out, you are not connected with your various devices severals hours a day, and you are not being flooded with different kinds of porpaganda every day and every second

The easiest way to opt out of society is to overcome society
Basically stop being a worker(Slave) and be one of the elite fat cats by making a lot of money

Then society works for you and you don't need to partake in society itself but just be a parasite that feeds it.

Seasteading is really your only option.  Prohibitively expensive but maybe in a couple decades (or centuries) material science will advance enough to make it a reality.  Cryptocurrency would be a perfect extra-national currency for extra-national people.

I don't think so... Some dude just got shot dead for camping in the middle of nowhere.  They threw a concussion grenade at him after the called him over to talk and when he ran they shot him dead.  Seems like you will pay taxes till death or be shot dead in the middle of nowhere for no reason if you don't.

^ this

become a hermit.

Where do you live? There's tons of backcountry in the U.S. where people live off-grid. Shit there's even legally-protected land set aside for communities that live different ways of life. Ofcourse, being a hermit, you'll never have any real protection from other citizens (or from the government for that matter).
