It is quite frustrating when certain users only post meme's

One user has had 16 of his last post be meme's nothing else, luckily there is an ignore button.

If all someone posts is meme pictures then that might be a different story. Who is the user in question?

No. I think memes are fine, as they are part of freedom of speech, and sometimes they are funny. I personally don't find them annoying, as long as they are not spammed.

That's the problem, in a serious topic, memes cause some distraction but it won't be a spam.

However, I think there should be an option (in your profile) to disable images. (You would use this if you are on mobile or a slow connection, so the thread would load faster.

If there is a mobile compatible site(maybe in new forum), showing the link embedded in [img] tag would be good rather than showing the image. An option in profile would also be fine!

Then you should have voted 'Yes'

Oops, you are right! I overlooked the poll!

Yes, they should be banned. They're immature and unfunny attempts at humor. They distract from the conversation at hand (if any exists) and they do not provide anything of value.

This distracts but this has a value.

I think we should ban all forms of freedom of speech. Make it so no one can say anything unless everyone else agrees. No one can express their dissent from the majority opinion either. Especially no use of satire.

Ha. I agree. Why do people want to ban everything that just vaguely annoys them? Freedom of speech until somebody says something you don't like? I haven't even noticed much of the memes either, but as long as they're on topic it's good to inject a little humour into things instead of being so serious all the time.

I think they should be allowed only if they are on-topic and valuable.

Example?

I voted for 'No' as I agree with b!z. If there is a few memes, there isn't any problem but if one is posted, many others come along.

I think they should be allowed only if they are on-topic and valuable. I see a lot of memes in Wall Observer, that's okay. But we don't need memes in serious discussion threads.

The Bitcoin General board seems to be getting overloaded by memes especially in serious topics regarding the future of the coin, do you think memes should be allowed in the bitcoin general or deleted by mods?
Can you give examples of that threads?
Bitcoin 20MB Fork
Gavin predicting 'chaos and drama'
bitcoin exchanges are a scam

just to name a few but there are a lot more threads with memes infesting them but they really don't bother me too much except when that's all some people are posting.
Yes, indeed, these topics are too many memes.

Not sure how to vote on this, I don't mind one or two here or there but when there are multiples in a row (or even just one that takes up the whole screen) then it's obnoxious. But then it seems like if you introduce a rule like memes are ok only under certain circumstances, enforcement will become an issue.

I wonder if it may just be better to have two general bitcoin discussion pages, one as it is today and one with much tighter rules on spam, memes, nonsense, personal attacks, no-content/low-content posts, thread topics repeated for the umpteenth time, etc... That's probably my preference.

This is a good idea imo. For example there's a meme speculation thread to contain meme images from spreading to the rest of the forum.

I think they're fine as long as it's occasional and doesn't turn into a spam fest like you see in some off-topic threads.
