Op off topic doesn't mean it's nonsense. It could be tagged nonsense if deleted and not when moved to off topic.
When I was a newbie, I made a posy that is wonderful and I even recieved merits on it but before I came online the next day, the topic was moved to off topic. I was so much curious why it was off topic. So, I decided to visit the off topic board to see what off topic looks like. There I understood that people even willingly go to off topic board and create topics and people also go there to reply them.
If you want to discuss your country's cultural heritage;
You want to discuss relationship;
You want to discuss folk tales and some related topics, off topic is a place you can find it.

In other words off topic means that you created a topic which doesn't have a board yet.

Being off topic don't end at just threads but also, some replies could be of topic too. For those replies, the users to have sent them easy find them deleted while the off-topic threads receives a rather selected judgement on it. Either deleted or moved to off-topic.

My reasons as I see it now as to why some posts gets either delete or moved is probably due to the fact that,

Some threads though might not fit in on the boards, they carry a symmetric load, are sensitive and users on the forum seem interested in the discussion. Posts such as theses might make it to the off-topic board while, those that don't gets deleted.
Sometimes, it could be based on how the thread is tagged by the reporter, supposedly if it was reported and also, the moderator actioning it.

For the purpose of knowing better, can someone please explain why some topics here are completely deleted while others are moved to off topic board for discussion? Off topic means you didn't make sense, and it wasn't fit for any other board, so why not completely deleted?
I think you are wrong, off topic posts are not completely nonsense posts, so topics that are moved there does not completely mean the post does not make any sense, it simply means the post does not relate to -
1. Bitcoin discussion
2. Press
3. Politics and society
4. Altcoin discussion
5. Services
6. Economic
7.etc.
If the post is related to any of the mentioned and not mentioned boards above, it will be moved to the board that is appropriate for it, but when the post does not relate to any of the mentioned board and not mentioned boards above, it will be either, moved to off topic board if the post in question makes sense or deleted totally if the post doesn't make any sense or is a complete spam.

Most threads moved to off-topic doesn't necessarily mean the didn't make sense although sometimes that could be the case but most of the times it is best discussed in the off topic subforum. Before a topic is deleted it means it can't be discussed in any board at all and still can't be discussed as off-topic invariably saying it has no use in the forum or better still the information is irrelevant

Off-topic topics still have value but zero-valued topics will be trashed.
  • "Other topics that might be of interest to bitcoiners." It is a description for that board.

It is helpful in some aspect so it is accepted in the forum. For shit topics, no value, they are trashed.

Off topic means you didn't make sense
Nope! That's a wrong conception. Off topic, for me, is for discussions that are far off from Bitcoin or crypto discussions but can be of benefit to those who are also interested in cryptos. I like to call it the, "Relaxation" board. It's for cruise. Sometimes, marital issues, sex, parenting, religion, siblings rivalry, schooling, cooking, kitchen and bedroom incidents, just name them, come up here. Can we truly say issues on those items listed are useless? Of course, not. Off-topic is even a place to start for genuine newbies who are lost here because it helps them pick interest posting here as they can easily identify with one or two topics to write on while perusing other sections of the forum.

The off topic board was created to accommodate certain conversations, just like any other board on the forum. There are lots of non-spam topics which do not fit into any of the crypto related sections and are maybe not imperative enough to go to serious discussion or its child boards. Off topic is a fitting section for such discussions.

Threads are moved around by mods all the time, to the board they feel is more appropriate, not just to the off topic board.

usually, threads are just moved to the trash can but not completely deleted, threads that are moved there mean that the thread is low quality or nonsense. if the thread is moved to off topic it means that the thread's topic has no connection with the board where it was posted.

It all comes down to the content. If you check contents of any of the deleted topics they are usually low quality and sometimes created for the sole purpose of spamming, trolling, etc. So they don't have a place anywhere on the forum whether in off-topic board or anywhere else.

Recently there has been a bunch of topics that look like they are not spam but when you look closely you can see they are advertising a website usually clickbait articles on a website owned by the topic starter. These obviously belong in the trashcan.

Not all on off topic are useless idea or subject. They maybe of importance but it should be on off topic cause it wasnt related to any board discussion but have relevant meaning to some or important discussion. For example some trending now that currently hype on discussion but is not related to bitcoin or any threads here.

You need to know this, moving a thread to off topic or deleting a post is the responsibility if the moderators, that's one of their specialty areas, they can deduce that or or report to them about any thread wrongly created to a wrong board or when what a user post is not it at all, now we have some reasons why deleting a post occur, when you post shit, spam, off point, your post are likely to be deleted, while when you're talking about Letter D when your ask to talk about A, then you're likely to get your post moved to off topic, just from the name implies, off topic, that simplified the meaning behind it, talking out of point, and when you experience either of the two, there's nothing you can do about it, moderators decided to either delete or move to off topic your post.

It's very simple. Topics are deleted when they are of low quality and do not contribute to the discussion on the forum (for instance, the question has already been asked many times), while they are moved from another topic to an off-topic if there is no appropriate board to which they belong. I think it is the discretion of the moderators which measure to apply.

<…>
Sticking to the discussion line of the topic (not posts) being either deleted or moved to off-topic, I figure it’s down to how the moderator sees it, perhaps bearing the following in mind:
<…> Off-topic - "Other topics that might be of interest to bitcoiners"
My guess is that the default action would be to move it to its proper board if there is one, but lacking one, then it would be to delete the topic, lest it has built-up some traction which could vouch for an off-topic section candidacy.

Perhaps a moderator can provide his angle here.

Note: off-topic can be more ample in local boards. For example, in my local board we’d also include Meta based topics and Politics & Society, type discussions, due to the lack of a mirrored structure to fit them in (meaning that off-topic is boarder in content there than on the English language main board).

All the topics that do not conform to the rules of the board are deleted, and if there is a topic
that belongs to another board, but someone posts it elsewhere due to their lack of knowledge, then that topic will be removed from there and delivered on the right board.
You will find the rules and other related information on mrprep post.

Tokens (Altcoins) (child board of Announcements (Altcoins)) - Altcoin token (an altcoin entity / thing that relies on another altcoin's infrastructure to function) announcements, generic (usually announcement like) token discussion threads.

Spam topics will often be deleted.

Topics not related to any board than off-topic will be moved to off-topic.

Posts that are not topic that are not related to the topic of discussion will also be deleted, it would be seen as spam.

I think sometimes off topic is a "soft delete" for some newbies so the mods can discourage spam. Topics can also be archived by mods for similar reasons (so the op doesn't get a notification their post has been deleted and gets discouraged from making posts) - this is VERY selective and changes from mod to mod quite dramatically though.

Sometimes threads are deleted if there are duplicate topics, if the topics encourage spam/low quality posts or any other rules are broken.
