After the recent change on membergroup, you now need 30 activity to be jr member.

In case someone is curious or confused about OP's situation (42 activity but still newbie), feel free to check the post https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.4679090

There's apparently a bug preventing Newbies from being promoted. I'll look into it when I have time. I don't think that there's any major disadvantage to being a Newbie now.

Well, i am a newbie, as newbie as they come. Just started my own altcoin miner, just bought my first fractions of bitcoin, getting close to 1...

The thing is I had myself listed as a junior member or something along those lines on this forum and then boom!  - I'm a newbie again. Did I do something wrong?

No, the membership groups changed. You now need more activity to break free of your newb title.
