I agree about the Press sub, but I think that board has served it's purpose now and should be locked/archived. It was created when any press mention about bitcoin was exciting and essentially 'noteworthy', but now it's just used to spam any old crap that vaguely mentions crypto. If it's to stay then I think we should prohibit any bitcoin/crypto-based websites but there definitely needs to be some standards pinned in there at least.

It feels like the purpose of that forum should be to discuss interesting and newsworthy current events as they happen in the real world.  Personally, I'd prefer if that was kept separate from the "regular" Bitcoin discussions, at least until the main Bitcoin discussion board is a little more spam-free.  I don't want to sift through several pages of "who is satoshi?", "what if the government ban bitcoin?", "Is bitcoin better than X/Y/Z?" and "why is price going up/down/sideways" to read about the latest news.

I'm all for Press being more strictly moderated, though.

Obviously Bitcoin Discussion needs a dedicated mod or two to trash the spam, but any decent article can and does get posted in Bitcoin Discussion so that's just another reason in my opinion why we don't need the Press board.

How about the child board Ivory Tower? Actually, I'm intrigued why it's called like that (my bad, I'll search it later). This should have a description also because others might think it was a tower made of ivory or a tower made by a girl with the name Ivory.

The name is tongue in cheek.

how about making Press board similar to "Serious discussion" boards. meaning you won't get your post count increased or get any activity or show your signature. this can effectively stop people from copying random news articles and pasting them there without much thought added if at all.

Ha. If we did that then nobody would post in there other than those that haven't figured out that posts don't count. Might as well just get rid of it if that was going to happen.

A list of news sources allowed to be linked there would be enough.

You probably couldn't make a list of all these publications as it would be too inclusive. We should just state that it' if it's from a Crypto/Bitcoin related site then it's not notable and therefor not allowed

All boards should have a description, and some with them should even expanded be upon so there's less confusion. I totally disagree. I do not think the press section is bad because it gets spam from people with signatures. It may be one of the sections that receives the least amount of spam in this regard. The big problem I see there is the spam of poorly and not respected publications. Small websites looking for clicks with clickbait titles. And repeated news from several different sources talking about the same subject.

A list of news sources allowed to be linked there would be enough.

Simple yet very helpful suggestion. Through this, incidents of inappropriate/unrelated post on particular boards will now be more avoided.
People seem to be mistaking Meetups for "two dudes hanging out in a basement" or something.
Really? Does anybody here has that way of thinking? That was insane and funny at the same time Grin. (Maybe I'm just not too dirty minded)

Ps: I'm sorry if I'm making no sense at all.

That's actually quite a good idea. Some bitcoin news sites, bitcoin users will probably already frequent. Other news sites such as 'state news' sites are much more of an interest to see where bitcoin gets mentioned in "regular" news and see where the price rebounds...

Mining has three child boards without descriptions as well.  Anyone have any suggestions for what those could be set as?

"Don't post here because your post will be deleted" springs to mind Grin.
Mayhe I'm just being bitter though.

All the Marketplace boards have descriptions, so the inconsistency strikes me as a little odd.  Is it the moderator assigned to each section who is responsible for their descriptions?
Well forum is still in the process of improvement. There are still more room for it to grow and just with people like this who had always had the ideas contributing for the development of the forum then improvement will going to take place.

Definitely there could be more than this and I support people who are doing little by little for all big things starts with small things. I should also find a way to suggest something that will surely contribute in this forum but for now, it would be hard since I am still learning in some aspects of the forum especially on its technicalities.

I second the motion if there should be a moderator assigned to each section for the  members now are already lurking in other sections so as to avoid posting on those super mega threads. As we all know that there are many shitposters in there so sometimes real members will going to avoid in that sections for there are some members there that are quietly annoying in their posts.

Two or three dudes hanging out in a basement sounds like a great idea. Many major projects and businesses started like that.

Proposed:

Press
Notable press hits about Bitcoin
Meetups
Find conferences, summits, workshops and other notable gatherings in your area
This is the most easiest improvement suggestion I guess theymos ever had  Smiley
By the way, it's good to have some descriptions for those sections.

Nope, stopping newbies from posting was! He didn't even have to do intend to do it to accomplish it (we all now know it's what he wants)... Smiley
And yeah allthe subsections/boards could do with some sort of description, but two strangers meeting each other is still quite a nice thing to have I guess...

So in Bitcoin Discussion, there are four "child boards" and two of them have pretty decent descriptions, but I think Press and particularly Meetups require a bit of tweaking:

Current:

Press
Notable press hits
Meetups

Proposed:

Press

Meetups

People seem to be mistaking Meetups for "two dudes hanging out in a basement" or something.  And some people still think they can post any news (even related to altcoins) in the Press section.  Simple descriptions can help remedy these mishaps.
