Puppy linux can boot off a CD then once it's loaded you can take the CD out. It's REALLY FAST!

dont put your wallet on the same machine as you mine on.  generally people are pushing the limits of these machines already storing the wallet on a machine that could easily catch fire, break down from heat, blow a power supply is not that smart even if you do back up regularly.

also better be sure you have the USB stick properly set up or any file you save wont be there when you restart the machine

Let the chips fall where they may.
I would not boot from a live CD for mining unless you are sure the Optical drive maintains the disk below its maximum storage temperature of about 40C. Solid-state like a USB stick is better, but often does not have the advantage of being read-only.

Disclaimer: Posting from a live CD doing test mining. The degradation of the disk takes months in my experience.
PS: I don't trust "SD cards" at the moment because they include CPRM with device revocation. Don't want that to happen to your wallet.dat! I have to research what exactly happens when the card or reader is revoked.

Just download any distro, most of them have a run from CD option.

I had clearly given him the answer, why did you bump a old topic...

Lol, like you didn't bump an old thread either.

I replied like 3 minutes later so I didn't really bump it Tongue
