I didn't get burned but from what I've read about it, one of the main problems was communication between the parties. That is why whenever I make deals I always make sure the person I am talking to knows fluent english or get a translator.

AFAIK, it was a FUD campaign orchestrated by 4 or 5 members, at least one of which was hacked, and all sharing a very poor hold on the English language.
I'm seeing lots of posts regarding people getting burned by YaCoin, saying that it is stealing their BTC. Example: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/--202110
