and it's gone...
Welcome to two weeks ago... https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/multibit-is-officially-abandoned-and-no-more-2049217 Tongue

It was nice of them to dump MultiBit 5 days before the hardfork... top marks there. I was kinda surprised that there weren't more threads around here wondering what to do about the fork and/or how to migrate to another wallet.

At least they made a video, showing peeps how to migrate their wallet to Electrum...

and it's gone...

Dear Bitcoin Community,

It is time for us to let Multibit go.

KeepKey acquired Multibit a little over 1 year ago. At the time, the engineers who originally built and supported Multibit had announced that they would no longer be working on it or providing support. Multibit played an important role in the Bitcoin infrastructure. We felt that it was important for Multibit to continue and hoped that with our existing support and development teams, we would be able to keep Multibit alive.

There is now a simpler method... Electrum, as of v2.9.0 supports custom derivation paths. So you can import MultiBitHD seeds directly into Electrum. You just need to click the "Options" button on the seed entry screen and use a derivation path of m/0' when prompted.

When you had so many problems with your MultiBit wallet and finally were able to access your coins using breadwallet, why wouldn't you have sent them to another wallet altogether to avoid this happening again? Sorry but you had a chance to research what went wrong and fix it.

With that said, there is still a possibility to recover your coin. Follow the instruction of user HCP and as soon as you regain access to your BTC - withdraw it to a different wallet such as blockchain.info. If you want to control your keys, then create a paper wallet and withdraw there and you are guaranteed not to hacked/robbed that way.

hey guys. I'm  Angry with multibitHD - I also have been dealing with the same problem "wrong password problem" and I'm 100% sure is the correct password. I have my seed words, I also have a wallet back up.

-I've tried to recover with breadwallet (no luck, since it only allows a 12 word seed).
-Opened a ticket with multibit, and they're pretty much worthless.

and i'm not sure what else to do... any input would be greatly appreciated.
As I told the user here: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.20389628

You have a number of options... Have you tried "Simple Bitcoin Wallet"... or do you only have an iPhone?

Failing that, you can use my Python recovery scripts (you want to use the one called "find_unspent_multibitHD_txes.py")...

Or, if you're not able to use the python scripts, you can follow the steps described in the other post to get your addresses/private keys from the BIP39 page that LoyceV linked (don't forget to check your change addresses for coins!)

I have my seed words
Try https://iancoleman.github.io/bip39/ : download it to an USB-stick and run it OFFLINE from a Linux LIVE CD.

Do you have seed ?
"Yes" Your just fine
can recover it when ever you want.

if there is seed that's it game over.
True,as long you do have the seed or keys you will able to access those bitcoins and as been said above ^^ try yo search the address and see if the funds are still intact. If it does then it should be fine, if its transferred already on other address then its quiet suspicious already. Multibit do have lots of issues regarding locked wallet/wrong password and they do really react so very slow until now it isn't still resolved.

I can certainly help out... and rest assured, your coins are not lost Smiley
Do you know what address your Bitcoins started on? Search the address on https://blockchain.info/ , see if they're still in that address, or that you moved them again.
If they're in the first address, one way or another your seed phrase should be able to recover them.

Yeah... I had other issues with Breadwallet, like it's refusal to let me run the keyboard of my choosing... my personal favourite was when it handily suggested I should use the "Google" Keyboard... which I am, but it still refused to work??!? Roll Eyes

I appreciate the dev is all super security focussed etc... but at some point you need to allow users to actually use your app Tongue

Simple Bitcoin Wallet is VERY simple... I can't vouch for it's security, so I would make sure you have somewhere safe to move your coins and send them ASAP once you get it all synced up.

Good luck

Thanks man I appreciate the help.

Yeah the plan was to get Breadwallet and then transfer them to Jaxx or something while I wait for a cold drive to arrive to store them there but...

I'm using a samsung android. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Breadwallet as per some advice I found on reddit and other places - no dice. It synced up and says 0.00 balance, it worked fine on friday and between then and now I have no idea what happened.

Thanks I'll try simple bitcoin wallet and then hopefully move them. Breadwallet worked okay for a while but the loading times were getting ridiculous and literally everytime I would turn the screen off or leave the app to send a text or something , it wants to sync again - from 0 - and it takes an hour and a half each time.

I started with MultibitHD until for inexplicably no reason, it started telling me "Password failed to unlock wallet" even though im 500% sure it's the correct password. Tried recovery, password reset, wallet restore, nothing ever worked and the Multibit team basically told me to F off and stopped responding to my help requests.
Yeah... if you read the MultiBit subforum... you'll find countless threads about "Password failed to unlock the wallet"... it is a well known MBHD issue, KeepKey (the MultiBit devs) have been aware of it for months... and yet, no update... in fact, no update on MBHD github since March!!?! Shocked

Then, I was advised I could access the BTC from "Breadwallet" on my android, so I did that and it worked - for a while - until about 48 hours ago the breadwallet app just goes to "syncing" for literally hours at a time sometimes. It either crashes "unfortunately, Breadwallet has stopped" at 65%,  80%, 16%, 99.9% and so on. Every few attempts sometimes it will complete and say I have a balance of 0.00.
This is why I have been advising people like yourself to only use Breadwallet to recover their funds... I DO NOT recommend Breadwallet (or Simple Bitcoin Wallet, Android Only) for long term storage of their coins.

I tried using the same seed phrase in Jaxx and Electrum and still balance of 0.00 with no transactions.
Unfortunately, Jaxx uses a different "Derivation Path" with it's 12 word seeds... so the same seed ends up generating different addresses in Jaxx. Electrum won't work because it uses a completely different seed system... and even if you select "BIP39 Seed" from the options menu when entering the seed, again, it uses a different Derivation Path, so again, you end up with different addresses.

I have the recovery phrase/seed or whatever and date stamp etc but it doesn't pull up anything nomatter where I go and "Breadwallet" (more like fucked in the ass wallet) is busy "syncing" for the 15th time today to what I'm sure will either be a crash or 0.00000 balance. I tried uninstalling the app and reinstalling, it doesn't have any effect.

Can someone help me sort this out before I pull my hair out and throw my PC out of my window ?
I can certainly help out... and rest assured, your coins are not lost Smiley

Firstly, are you running an iOS or Android phone? If iOS, sadly, the only known solution I have is "Breadwallet"... but we can do a longer/slightly more complex approach on the PC if "Breadwallet" is still being problematic.

If you are on Android... try "Simple Bitcoin Wallet": https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.btcontract.wallet&hl=en

It is basic, and a little slow, but it should get you access to your coins relatively easily... at which point I would highly recommend you immediately send all your coins to a new wallet. I'd recommend Electrum as a very solid, very reliable replacement for MBHD. It is also a lightweight "SPV" wallet that doesn't require you to download the entire blockchain. It is actively maintained and supported and there are a lot of users in the Electrum sub-forum who will be able to help if you have any issues/questions.

If you aren't having any success getting into Breadwallet or Simple Bitcoin Wallet... let me know, and we can give you the step by step for recovering your private keys from the Seed phrase so you can sweep/import them into another wallet Smiley

MultibitHD generated the original wallet, that I later accessed through breadwallet - i used the seed phrase in breadwallet to get to it. The breadwallet app now shows 0 balance and the desktop one won't even let me open it because the password is "wrong" though im certain it isn't. This was an ongoing issue with MultibitHD which is why I ditched it in the first place, the support team there was useless in helping me fix it and that was months ago.

I have the transaction history, I bought all the BTC from the same vendor and can get the transaction IDs im sure through my account there, but as far as breadwallet is concerned its 0.000

You seem confused on how private keys or wallets even work.
Which address had control over the keys? Which wallet generated that address?

If you successfully recover the seed where you once had control of the coins, you'll be able to see the transactions made from related addresses (once the wallet is synced properly).

Bitcoin doesn't vanish without a trace, seems like a misunderstanding from your part.

Pretty frustrated right now, hoping someone here can help me before I go on a rampage. I have about 1k in bitcoin that seems to have just evaporated and the support teams for the different wallets I was using have been
less than 0 help.

I tried using the same seed phrase in Jaxx and Electrum and still balance of 0.00 with no transactions.

I dunno what the hell is going on and I'm not knowledgeable enough with bitcoin to figure it out. All I know is that theres about a thousand dollars I can't get ahold of or access and from what I can tell, is just gone.
