I had that happen to the 12V Aux on a mb that was very overclocked. Sucks but I was able to solder in makeshift pins and "Fix it". It is odd though powered cards not need that much from the MB unless they are not getting enough from the PCIe power feeds.

Why does this happen all the frigging time? You put ~ $1300 in video cards, into a $200 motherboard, and you skimp on the $35 or so, for the powered risers.

Hello,

I just had this happen on a rig with 4 cards. This is the second rig with 4 cards that is pulling 980w out of a 1200w PSU.

just wandering.
Thanks

I believe pci-e devices are powered by the 4 pin (or 8 pin) power connector, so this doesn't make sense.

Edit:  Also, it seems you've had a short between the 3.3v rail and ground.  PCI devices would utilize the 5v rail.  This doesn't appear to be caused by too many graphics cards onboard.  I've run 4x 5870's severely overclocked in each rig without any powered risers for months straight without any issues.

yes.

i have a similar setup.  put the higher draw cards (5970 and 6970) on powered risers.   I have a 4x6950 rig with two cards on powered risers that has never seen problems and draws about 900w.
