Was it really so bad to be under house arrest? His mother was probably making him supper every night, he probably got a nice bed, playing Halo, eating Cheezies.. maybe Shrem had an online dating account and he was getting women to come to him? How is house arrest punishment?! 
He is lucky, the judge could have denied him bail as a flight risk and kept him in county for a year until sentencing.
Where can I find information on what his situation is?

No it's fairly easy to keep them mentally separated... one was implicated in shady drug stuff, and the other one was a bad actor.
