From my knowledge, Coins are separate currencies with their own separate blockchain and wallets., Token is issuable within coin platform like ethereum, waves etc and usually represent a piece of something. Here some refference;

This is the exact point of the difference between coins and tokens. Coins have their own systems like blockchains etc. Tokens are created and issued within a blockchain.
Tokens are generally ethereum ERC20 or waves type of things. Waves tokens are very weak since they can't be listed on exchanges. There is no trade volume for them.
