Interested in this, I never managed to get my HIS 6950 to work together with 7900 cards, at least not with cgminer. It just won't run, I tried selecting a specific device in the config file but cgminer won't run either card when I start to mix'n match.

I have a 290 being delivered today and I'd like to run it with one of my 7970s in my main rig, let's see.

They'll work, but you're less likely to encounter issues running the same model card, also, consider using windows over linux if you're new to the game, particularly if you're going to mix and match cards as, (At least from my experience) windows is a bit more friendly when it comes to that kind of setup.

Personally, My rigs are all 280x's so I have limited experience setting it up how you've proposed, however, I can say the Asrock board is awesome Smiley

Hi everyone, today my new ASRock 970 Extreme4 motherboard will be delivered. Which means I can finally use multiple cards, is it true that the best way to do this is by using only the same 100's series of cards. Because at the moment I have a Sapphire R9 290, Sapphire HD6870(old one) and probably an Asus HD7950 tomorrow. Do you guys think it will give me any problems when I try to connect those three cards to my new motherboard?
