As far as I know, Links from a newbie account will be replaced by *Suspicious link removed* text, only juniors can provide a link.
If this will be applied to Junior members, any starting business account will have to wait for 2-months and unnecessarily participate to topics in order to gain (10) merit, just for their initial purpose: to display links to their site.
With this, scammers will not only participate in scams but to spam as well.

Whatever the dark side is, I can agree with this, since the workaround "Copper Membership" is cheaply available to legit ones.

The members getting scammed out of this are inexperienced buyer. Anyone with some online buying experience has knowledge about genuine Escrow websites. Though, I must say that even after taking all precautions there are chances of getting scammed with an online purchase.

This forum does not offer any protection for deals happening here and this will be impractical also. Various other internet marketing forums, require user to meet certain requirements and then pay some fees to get their sales thread listed. Thereafter, the service is reviewed by staff and then approved for other members. Also, if someone scam there, it can be reported to moderators and they ban the seller if he is at fault.

If the forum want's to remain consistent in not removing scams then I think something like this needs to be put into place. Although I don't think your approach is the best way of going about it. I think disabling links in the marketplace by certain members is probably a good approach at first glance. Though this isn't as good as it first appears. For example someone who comes to the forum to mainly sell their goods will likely get hurt by this approach as they wouldn't be making posts which would be rewarded by merit and I think this is why the staff members don't moderate scams as it's way to difficult to determine if something is a scam in the first place and putting in restrictions will affect those that aren't doing anything wrong.

If people aren't doing their research and not using trustworthy escrows then that's down to them. It's not a perfect view point but people need to use their brains when it comes to handing their money to strangers.

If it's the case that they are posting malicious links then they will be removed. The current rules which are implemented are likely the best way to approach this without restricting genuine users.

It's getting worse. scammers armies invade Marketplace  using fake escrow sites.[1]
We can’t stop phishing/scamming but at least disable these links will diminish it.
You can post links freely after getting 10 merits and wait for two months.
