I am okay with this and the tagging although I don't agree on how the tagging was done because taggers don't have rules to follow and only based on their own perception.

Let us give this new system a chance.

People are always going to moan. Moan that theymos doesn't do anything and then when he does moan at that but wont ever offer any solutions themselves. People will make the same arguments against this system that they do with the feedback system but no merit or feedback system will ever be perfect but this new one is meant to reward quality contributions whilst defacto punishing poor ones as they'll never get anywhere now.

This is a huge centralization risk to a decentralized Bitcoin forum.

Who told you this forum was decentralised? It's not. It's the opposite.

New thread, awesome. Couldnt we discuss concerns in one thread, the one started by theymos?
Keep the discussion together, keep things easy to read and monitor for people interested, instead of starting a new thread for every concern?

Back to topic: Haven't we been through this already with the trust system? Feels like the same concerns and criticism all over again.
Theymos is testing something right now, and you seem to think you already know how it works out. After 8 hours, without any reliable statistics or evidence to fall back on.
How about we give it a go, adjust things if necessary and try to improve, instead of labeling all change as bad and sticking to the way things "always have been" (which arguably is problematic right now)?

While theymos has come up with a fruitful solution of adding merit system to combat spammers in his forum, but I have a feeling that this might not end up well enough after some time. Users having the power of crediting merits (those who are in the merit sources team) will abuse the system by only crediting merits to their friends and won't bother rating others. This is a huge centralization risk to a decentralized Bitcoin forum.

Unless theymos comes out with a solution to this issue or diversify the way merit sources will be chosen, this forum will slowly turn into reddit full of merit abusers.

Just my thoughts.
