Fan not turning on usually means it's not getting enough power.  Make sure your PSU can handle it and the discrete card is seated well and plugged in correctly.

What display drivers are you using?
Lower than 11.7, then yes you need to connect a monitor, or make/buy a dummy plug! However, the fan should still be running regardless!

Do you have the two 6-pin PCIe power connectors connected?

Then you will need to make sure you have your BIOS set to PCIe graphics for primary display.

Hello guys,

I wanted to try mining but I'm having some issues.

I use ubuntu with AMD E350 and Radeon HD5850.

I was able to mine with the integrated GPU, but the HD5850 isn't working. It doesnt show up in list adapter, and the fan doesn't turn on.

I have plugged a cable in the output, do I need to connect it to a monitor? (I have none around)

Anyone else with the same issue?
