Like you said its not a new idea. Anyone can publish an article in steemit or medium and then put his btc address below it and hopes to receive tips from philanthropist who just happen to pass by and read the article.  Sadly, I have never heard of such philanthropist with tons of BTC who does that.  What I have seen however are those guys like Mcafee who brags about his wealth and expect more profit after shilling a project, they don't just send BTC to anyone because someone publish such article, gone are the days.

Hi fudster,

I think you are probably right. A community is interesting not because it receives bitcoin but because of its content. So I think my job now shift towards building content first. Tip is the easiest part to implement right now but I think eventually what I want to have is like paid content and subscription of the real valuable content.

Thanks!

Not sure what to make out of this. Visited the site and read what I guess is the genesis post.

As Vod mentions, you have to ask yourself first, is blockchain what you need? Is its difference from a normal database, a centralised one at that, what you require and what is necessary? I like open source, I like distributed and decentralised, but I also feel centralised can be necessary (like this forum, or like Reddit (where BTC tipping already works easily), or even Quora, for example). Don't need to look far for inferior comparisons - Steemit is all we need to see the flaws of a blockchain-based social media platform where interactions are incentivised via algorithms.

Hi buwaytress,

I think I only need bitcoin to be used to pay authors but no other complicated incentives. Although we could tip in this forum, reddit, quora, I'd say it is really hard for me to find it. I think there is a need for a product which is aimed only for receiving payment through bitcoins. Because users which accept and pay in bitcoins in reddit and quora are only a small fraction of their user base and also these places are for discussion rather than writings.

Thanks!

I feel like blockchain apps except bitcoins are not mature yet, i.e., they have higher costs than traditional web solutions. So I want to build a web app which is a mixture of bitcoin and traditional web technology.

I'm not sure that you understand they are different.  Web solutions serve one purpose; blockchain another.

What advantages does the blockchain bring to social media?

Hi Vod,

My understanding is that from the point of view of database, blockchain and other web apps are the same. Bitcoin is a database of payment. Social medias are database of posts, etc. "Blockchain powered social media" nowadays tends to save payments, contents, contracts, all the stuff on chain at the same time.

I think a separation between payment and other stuff is better at this time. Introducing bitcoin payment to social media just smoothes any payment that might occur in this network. Or I think what I am going to build is more like user generated content rather than social media.

By the way your registration date is really impressive, you are still here in this bear market!

Thanks!

A social media platform or more like medium or steemit? I am just trying to get the idea. What is your next move? By the way, remember to market the product.

Hi Pamoldar,

It is sort of social media, but I want to make it more creator/author centered. It is kind of inspired by steemit. But i think the incentive mechanism of steemit is difficult to be understood by common people. Mine will just use bitcoins and the use of payment will be similar to traditional web apps.

Next I will build some common features of social media and also introduce paid contents and subscriptions. I'll post new progress in this thread.

I am not good at marketing. Currently I plan to accumulate contents and improve user experience first. Maybe few months later I'll start marketing though.

Thanks!

Hello guys,

Check out our website https://dissent.me!

We want to build a platform such that people could post freely and earn tips.

This is not a new idea but we believe we haven't got the best implementation yet.

We are in alpha period right now. So the product is just a prototype and we'll have incremental change every week.

If you are interested in this project, please join us on telegram: https://t.me/joinchat/FQNCgRbRDF33glejR4xU7Q. Here you can tell us whatever functions you want on this app.

Any suggestions are welcomed!

Thank you very much~
