DNS involves trusting third parties, which is not (much) of an issue with the actual DNS system as it stands, but Bitcoin is controversial to some, so it might be problematic. As Saturn7 says, using the namecoin system could be a potential solution.

So namecoin doesn't require trusting third parties? I don't think most users will run full namecoin nodes, so probably they would trust external DNS-servers.

Yes but if one was inclined to check if a third party namecoin providers was blocking or changing entries the information to check that is available to you.

Namecoin really has some amazing potential if basic usability layers where added to it, which I believe are being developed, but there are not that many dev's focusing their attention on namecoin at the moment.

so the way i see it the community needs to make it commonplace in order to keep being attractive for new users. then highly desired addresses could become in high demand giving possibility for a new business model. i guess this will need to be implemented into all wallet types eventually.

There is already a desire from the core developers (or Gavin Andresen, at least) to achieve your end-goal, although not necessarily adding a DNS layer style as the approach. I'd welcome this too, but it would depend on how it was implemented. we all need to make use of cryptocurrencies an easier task in order for them to become mainstream. i was wondering if its technically possible to have some sort of a server just like DNS to be directed to by the wallet clients for ease of transactions. for users like charities or funds or businesses that dont need anonymity. if registered at that service just like with dns a wallet could become a unique set of letters optionally to be used alongside the original wallet address code. that way a charity could operate using same name like 'cancerresearch.uk' for example but have different wallets assigned at will through that service, though if you still want to use the code it will still work. that way charity dont need to make people copy paste the long number but have donators place funds by remembering simple text. please discuss.
