What mobo are you using? Does it even have the “pcie_pwr” sockets the PSU Manual mentions?

My mobo doesnt and just has the 8pin EPS and 24pin connected.

I have AsRock H81 PRO BTC R2.0.

There are two slots of PCIE_PWR on the board.

Please find below the excerpts from the mobo manual:

Gone phishing...
In general, for mining-specific motherboards:

You should not need the supplementary PCIe slot power to the motherboard if you are using POWERED risers. (At this point, the riser market is basically dominated by powered risers, so you may as well go with those.)

Before the USB-based risers came around, ribbon cables were the big thing:

Some, like the first two, were unpowered, and the third was the typical one, which spliced off the power connection to the x16 slot to a 4-pin molex plug directly to the PSU. If you're only using 1, perhaps 2 unpowered risers on a motherboard without supplementary PCIe power, you're *probably* fine. Otherwise, you might start seeing problems (like PCIe slots literally melting or appearing to burn out).

Hi,

I have Corsair HX1200i. Currently I want to connect two Sapphire Nitro+ Radeon RX 580.

As per the PSU manual:

2.7 Installing the 4-pin Power Connectors
The two extra 4-pin power connectors on this motherboard offer more power for
your graphics cards. They provide stable voltages and greatly reduce the risks of
burning your motherboard or graphics cards.

When more than three graphics cards are installed, be sure to install the PSU’s
4-pin power cables to the 4-pin power connectors (PCIE_PWR) on your
motherboard; otherwise, the cards may be damaged.

Please MUST install TWO PSU’s 4-pin power cables to your MB’s TWO 4-pin
power connectors.
Plug one of the PSU's 4-pin power connector (1) to the 4-pin
power connector closer to the PCIe x16 slot (A PCIE_PWR1) .
Then plug another PSU's 4-pin power connector (2) to the other 4-pin power
connector (B PCIE_PWR2 ) .

If your PSU only provides ONE, then please MUST install it to the 4-pin power
connector (PCIE_PWR1) closer to the PCIe x16 slot.

Important: Make sure both the connected 4-pin and 24-pin power connectors are on the
same PSU; otherwise, the motherboard may be damaged.

Question No. 1: Do I need to install the 4-pin connectors from PSU to the motherboard?

I will use risers and understand that I have to power the GPUs directly from the PSU.

Question No. 2: Do I need to install the 4-pin connectors from PSU to the motherboard in case I increase the GPUs?

Looking forward for your response.

Thanking you in anticipation.

Regards,

Rizwan
